Yes,she replied as if I should know what that meant.

The cubs rolled at my feet and nipped at my ankles, making me laugh. They pestered me until I scratched behind their ears again.

Scratches!one of the cubs demanded.

Mama Bear rolled back onto all fours and shook her head. Her ears flicked, then went flat as she turned and gazed into the forest.

We’re out of time. It has found us.

Chills ran over my skin.

“Whatfound us?” I asked, only for a roar to answer me a moment later.

Muffled shouts came from behind me and I whirled to find the rainbow-haired male beating his fists against a translucent wall that shimmered like oil.

What the ever-living fuck is going on?

I saw that Ned was stuck behind it too, so I approached and passed my fingers through it. It released with a softpopand Raze immediately recaptured my wrist. “We’re leaving, now.”

Mama Bear growled and bounded between us and the shadow approaching through the forest.

A strange sense of emotion swept through me seeing an animal trying to protect me.

I hadn’t done anything to deserve protection, yet when a massive lion with a mane of fire appeared, the bears formed a line and growled.

“This way!” Raze shouted, pulling me away from the creatures, but I stood my ground.

“No,” I hissed. “I’m not going to leave them to fend for themselves. They’re just little cubs!”

“You don’t understand,” Raze said, his ruby eyes wild with magic and intensity. “They can take care of themselves. Let’sgo.”

“Uh, Bonny?” Ned said, pointing at the beasts facing off against one another.

My eyes went wide.

The little, adorable cubs I’d calledfloofshad just turned into terrifying monsters.

Rows of teeth appeared as they unlocked their jaws and they tripled in size. Their golden horns shimmered with power, and the cubs released a horrifying roar that shook me down to my bones.

Holy fuck.

The lion charged, leaving a trail of embers in its path.

That’s when the rainbow shit hit the fan and I learned why the Enchanted Forest was not a magical place of floofy cubs.

It was a terrifying place filled with carnivorous monsters.

And I was about to become lunch.

BONNY

“Okay, yeah. Let’s go,”I finally agreed.

Because, damn. Those little cubs had just turned into forest piranhas.

Some of Raze’s panic was starting to make sense to me now.

My friends nodded and we all turned to run, but a trail of fire cut off our escape route.
