She was her own creature and she wanted to take over.
“No!” I shouted as I fought against the change.
If she sunk her teeth into my soul, I’d never be the same again.
Last night I’d accepted the changes without fully understanding what I was committing to. I had been blinded by the ability to finally fucking do something.
My wolf couldn’t understand my plans for the future or my fears from the past.
She lived in the present. Nothing else mattered.
Her thoughts battered at me with short, punchy demands. She didn’t carefully ponder all of the details or worry about the bigger picture.
Life was simple for her.
Night.
Day.
Hunger.
Sated.
Those were the things she understood.
And right now she wanted to be free. She had been caged our entire lives, and the heart of the Moon Goddess finally awakened her.
Kane’s worship had only amplified the magic within us, and then my alphas calling to us had pushed me into this state.
“You need to stop fighting your wolf,” Althea insisted.
“You… sound like her,” I complained, but the sensation of something cold running over my arms made me wonder what Althea was up to.
Forcing my eyes open, I realized that we were deep inside the caves. Moon blossoms glowed all around me, living freely on vines.
My village would have killed for those.
But I wasn’t going to be able to get these to them. Althea dutifully wound heavy chains around my waist and over my shoulders.
I didn’t fully register what was happening until she finalized the restraints with a weighted metal collar around my neck.
A snarl ripped from my throat as my wolf retaliated against the feeling of being caged.
Nina rested on her knees just within reach. She didn’t seem concerned that Althea had just made me a prisoner.
Is this what Kane had meant when he’d told Althea she’d need helpsecuringme?
Even if that was the case, Althea didn’t seem to need much help at all. I hadn’t been fighting nearly hard enough.
You distracted me!I shouted at my inner wolf.
She shrank back from my rage, giving me further control over our broken body.
I fought against the restraints and curled my fingers around the collar.
The caves were filled with thousands of Moon Blossoms and I drew from their aura. I was still merged with the Goddess’s heart.
Or… maybe I hadbecomethe Moon Goddess.
