I’d been such a fool.

“Get up, you moron,” Ryker hissed at me.

I blinked at him with dumbfounded confusion. How could the most loyal to the Goddess not see the truth, even now?

Ignoring him, I leaned into the pain by crawling forward. My collar jolted me with magical agony, but it was nothing compared to my grief for getting this so completely wrong.

“Forgive us,” I said again.

A plea.

A prayer.

Ryker shot to his feet, only to be slammed back down by the retaliation of his chains. “You will not beg for me!” he snarled as he clawed against the chains. “You will not, Vern!”

My jaw flexed as I scanned the other alphas.

Shadow observed, as he often did, leaving his features unreadable.

Dash panted against his restraints. I hadn’t seen a wound on him other than the wolf bite on his bicep, but based on the sheen of sweat over his face, he was more injured than I realized.

He didn’t have the strength to fight should I fail to convince our mate to give us a chance. We couldn’t count on the Outcast to keep us alive forever if she insisted on our deaths.

The dark satisfaction in his eyes suggested this was exactly what he’d wanted to happen.

I glanced back at Dash, hopeful that I would have an ally in the only path that would lead to our survival.

Toher.

He gave me a subtle nod. The others might not have seen it, but it was enough to show me that he intended to support me in this.

Good,I thought.One down.

Two to go.

When I opened my mouth to beg for her forgiveness again, I drew in a long gulp of air.

Then staggered as desire jolted through me.

I’d nearly forgotten our mate had gone into heat… and now that she was in her human form again… I would feel every second of her all-consumingneed.

KATLYN

I panted as raw desire coursed through me, washing away the agony of my transformation.

My wolf soothed me with promises of bliss unlike any we’d ever experienced.

Because her instincts told me that our heat would activate our alphas… and a new form of vengeance played out in my mind.

Digging my fingers against the smooth floor of the cave, I rolled my shoulders, working out each tight muscle.

The movements seemed to antagonize the chained alphas.

The green-eyed male named Vern stayed on his knees, grinding against the stone until he bled.

The intense lust in his gaze made heat rush through my body, but it was his words that captured my wolf’s interest.

“We made a mistake,” he began, then held up one hand with extended claws. He slowly raked them over his chest, drawing blood. “If you won’t accept my apology, then accept my blood… Omega.”
