The Goddess.
And you have shown your acceptance of the Moon Pack Alpha. He has filled you with his seed and his loyalty. Look what fruits we already create with his power.
It was by far the most words my wolf had ever said to me at once—and she definitely sounded more sentient and aware.
More… advanced.
Obeying her, I looked down and found an entire gathering of the precious Moon Blossoms at my feet.
Curious, I took a step.
More sprouted all around my foot and tickled my ankle with soft power.
I swallowed past the lump in my throat as I tried to absorb what this meant. I could leave right now and run all the way to my village. I could line every roof with Moon Blossoms and keep everyone safe from the Storms.
A predator’s stare made me flinch my gaze up.
Back to him. A male covered in scars held me captive with the power of his presence.
Hunter…my wolf said.
Perhaps you could protect the humans from the Storms. But can you protect them fromhim?
She was right. This ‘Hunter’ posed a threat. I could sense the incredible power within him that threatened us all.
And this was only one. Hadn’t he brought an entire legion with him?
“Well?” I asked, snapping at him. The word seemed infused with power and made him flinch. “Are you going to tell me who you are?”
He frowned at my question, but he had the sense to answer me.
He was restrained, outnumbered, and at my mercy. I could do more than create flowers. I felt my teeth sharpening against my lips and my fingernails itching to turn into claws.
I could let my wolf loose if he so much as offended me.
And I would tear out his throat.
“My name is Dante,” he told me. He straightened even though I could spot the wave of pain that ran over his face. Kane had said that there were those in the Moon Pack that could perform magic as well as Hunter abilities.
The chains binding him seemed to glow the same orange-gold of his eyes, while at the same time generating a circle of silver light.
Curious, and effective. Whoever had bound him had mixed both Moon and Hunter magic to create the restraint.
If I was going to protect my family from the Stormsandthe Hunters, then I needed to learn what worked against them.
“Dante,” I said, testing the name as I began to pace around him.
The wolves parted for me, keeping themselves low to the ground as they moved on all fours with lithe grace.
Even in human form, they had no trouble with grace or speed.
“Am I supposed to know who you are?” I asked.
He frowned. “I suppose not. You would only know me if you had been educated about Calamity.” He tilted his head. “And about what you are.”
Kane snarled in warning from behind me, but I held up a hand.
Stay in control,my wolf warned me, but my instinct had already told me that I needed to be the one questioning this Hunter. Kane might be an alpha, but I was a Goddess.
