I frown at his back. I thought this was a weird coincidence, but maybe it isn’t at all. Maybe it’s being here, in the Mountain. He did say it’s an old fae place.

‘Not my bitch?’ Iron turns with a roll of his eyes. ‘I could easily fix that, Jayce, but the choice is yours. For now, do as I say before she bleeds all over the place. I don’t know what my limits are yet and we don’t want Dante’s people finding her and taking credit for our capture before we can get our due all becauseyoudidn’t clean up a little blood.’

Iron has a point about the blood.Fucker.

‘Are your limits why you haven’t made her just answer our questions?’

He hesitates and then gives a sharp nod. ‘It didn’t work when I tried,’ he admits.

He turns back around and disappears through the doorway.

‘And behave,’ he calls to me from the common area.

‘Stop ordering me to do your bidding,’ I say to him even though he’s gone.

I make a face and shut the wooden door behind him, deciding that I’ll follow Iron’s orders on the day he gets on his knees and sucks me off.

In fact, fuck him and his rules. I have a great idea for a field trip while everyone’s at the fight, and it might just get us what we want without killing her, plus getting Axel back at the same time.

I stand in front ofJulesand she looks up at me, her eyes still dewy. She doesn’t say a word.

‘That was pathetic,’ I mock. ‘I’ve never seen someone cave so fast to a little fae compulsion. I’ll admit after all the shit you pulled, I thought you’d be stronger.’

It’s a lie. There aren’t many who can resist that kind of magick and those who can don’t last long if the fae get ahold of them, but I see that I’m getting to her. She just got a heavy dose of reality and she’s reeling.

I might be feeling conflicted regarding the fragile little human in front of me, but I still believe no one deserves this more than her.

‘Lay down on the bed,’ I instruct.

She doesn’t move.

‘Do I need to show you whatIcan do?’

CHAPTER11

JULES

Ishake my head, sniffling a little. I lay down slowly on my front, burying my face back into the pillow.

He’s staring at me. He does that for a few minutes. Guess it’s a power play. But then I feel him messing around with the wound in my back.

He prods it. It hurts and I squirm, letting out a mewl and trying to get up.

He holds me down easily with a knee in the middle of my back.

‘Don’t,’ I beg, afraid he’s making it worse, damaging me more.

He hushes me. ‘Calm down. I’m just rebandaging it,Jules.’

I turn my head, straining to see what he’s doing. He puts the web bandage back over it and his weight disappears from me.

He leaves the room, closing the door. I’m alone. I know I should try to escape, but how? I’m exhausted and my shoulder is killing me. At least the cramps have eased off. I close my eyes just for a second to think.

‘Get up.’

Jayce is back, I think groggily. I do what he says slowly, swaying when I get to my feet. Despite being a little off-balance, I actually feel a lot better than I did.

He rips a piece off the thin blanket from the bed.
