Oh, no.
‘I know him from before,’ I blurt. ‘We have a history. Sexual tension or something, that’s all.’
Dante’s hand runs up my thigh.
‘Please,’ I whisper.
‘There’s no need to beg,’ he coos. ‘I can make you feel as good as he did.’
Somehow, I doubt that.
I feel his hand going higher, pushing the shirt I’m wearing out of the way. ‘Shall I demon-up?’ he murmurs. ‘Is that what you want? Thick, calloused fingers? A monstrous, supe cock?’
‘I’ll tell you how I got here,’ I blurt.
He freezes for a second, but then he just smiles and keeps going. ‘Do you know what none of those fools out there will ever understand?’
I shake my head, pushing ineffectually at his hand.
‘A human like you needs to be broken first, no matter what.’
He watches me like a hawk, and I try not to show fear, but it’s hard. He doesn’t justwantto break me, he feels like heneeds to. That’s why he hasn’t tried all that hard to get answers out of me. He’s waiting until he makes me crumble before he moves in for the kill.
‘Your kind crave it,’ he continues. ‘Once that’s done, you’ll do whatever I need, whatever I want. You’ll answer every question I ask. You won’t hold anything back, pet, because you won’t want to. I’ll be your everything. Shall we begin?’
He looms over me, making me feel tiny and weak. I guess that’s the point.
‘I am your master, your entire world. If I want to hit you, I will. If I want to starve you, I will. If I want to give you to one of my men for an hour or five, you smile and go voluntarily. If I want to fuck you myself, you position yourself however I wish, and you stay there until I’ve had my fill of your body.’
I almost let a grin out at his menacing words. He sounds like every other supe asshole I’ve ever conned. The realization that he’s no different really makes me relax. He’s not the first one to threaten me, treat me like this. I doubt he’ll be the last assuming I survive him.
Sad, but true.
It would be great to escape him, to laugh at him and mock him as I skipped out of his clutches, but I do have the next best thing.
I’m shaking a little as I get ready to lever myself off the bed. I know I’ll only have one chance to do this.
‘I’m serious,’ I say, ‘I’ll tell you where the portal is. I’ll tell you when it opens.’
He smiles condescendingly. ‘I know you will, pet, but there’s no hurry. It’s a portal and it’ll open when the magicks align.’
He leans in.
‘No need to rush the journey,’ he whispers, his fingers tightening punishingly on my thigh for a second before he lets go.
I spring off the bed while he’s not holding me and drop to the floor.
He laughs. ‘There’s nowhere to fly to, pigeon, nowhere to hide at this point. I’m your only protection from the mob now that they know for sure you exist. They’ve had a small taste. They’ll never stop hunting you now wherever you go in the Mountain.’
I grab the vial in my fist and stand. ‘It doesn’t matter if you break me,’ I say, taking out the tiny cork. ‘You’ll run out of patience and kill me before I can tell you anything anyway.’
He jumps off the bed, eyes narrowing at what’s in my hand. ‘Don’t do anything foolish,’ he warns.
I feel the wall at my back as he stalks towards me, and I hesitate for just a second. If I do this, there’s no way I’m making the window. But I’m hoping that if he can’t get a reaction from me, he won’t bother playing with me until the venom has worn off. Hopefully by then I’ll have a new plan even if that means staying here another three months until the next time the portal opens.
I actually chuckle aloud at my desperate positivity.
I’m never getting out of here, but at least Jayce and Axel and the others might. They might be a clan of mostly assholes, but they don’t really deserve to be here. They’re not like Dante and the other inmates.
