‘Careful offering me anything, woman,’ he says. ‘I might just takeeverything.’
I close my mouth and get a handle on myself.
‘You can’t,’ I say with a forced grin. ‘I know the law. I’m human through and through. You can’t feed from me unless I sign on the dotted line.’
‘We’re already in prison, peaches. What are they going to do? Who would care? Who would you even tell? The demon king?’ He laughs and comes in for another kiss to prove his point, but as his skin brushes mine, I nip him hard, drawing blood.
He pulls away with a curse. ‘Fuck, that was hot.’ Then his nostrils flare. ‘I can smell your blood. Heard you got hurt.Good.’
But I don’t think it’s my shoulder he’s scenting. Bad luck strikes again. Of courseitwould start now.
My eyes narrow and I prepare to fight just in case he comes at me. I know how supes get when there’s blood around.
But he just leans in close to my ear. ‘I’m going to lull you,’ he whispers. ‘You’re going to beg for me to fuck you. Don’t worry, I will. And then I’ll let Dante have you.’
I smirk. ‘Fuck you, Jayce,’ I say. ‘Your demon shit doesn’t work on me.’
‘But I’m thinking Iron’s fae shit does,’ he retorts although I can see that I’ve surprised him.
‘Iron wouldn’t do that,’ I whisper, remembering how the other incubus was at Maddox’s estate.
I didn’t get to know him all that well, but I know he had a code. It was a loose one, but he followed it and I can’t believe he’d be on board with what Jayce is suggesting.
‘Are you so sure? It’s a cold, dark prison and he was deprived before we even got here. Maybe I’ll call him in. He can play with your head while I play with your body.’
‘Do it,’ I say, calling his bluff. ‘It’s been a few days since I had a fuck. The two of youmighteven be enough for me.’ I look him up and down. ‘But, looking at you, I doubt it.’
His lip curls, but he backs off just like I hoped he would. I just need his dislike of me to keep outweighing his hunger.
I glance up at the holes in the ceiling that lead to the shaft nearby. So fucking close and yet so far away.
‘Don’t even think about it,’ he warns. ‘I’d hate to have to hogtie you.’
His tone suggests he’d love a reason to do just that.
I snort. ‘I’ll bet, but I thought you heard. I got an arrow in my back the other day. I can’t climb for shit right now.’
He steps back and I think he’s about to leave when Iron strolls through the door.
I look from one to the other, fear creeping in. Did Jayce call him? Can Iron read his mind? Was I wrong about him?
Iron steps closer and I shrink back. He gives Jayce a dark look.
‘Go find Maddox,’ he says in his gravelly voice.
‘But—’
Iron raises a brow and Jayce huffs. ‘Fucking fun police,’ he mutters.
But he leaves and it’s just Iron and me.
He watches me but doesn’t move and I simply stare back.
‘You’re bleeding,’ he murmurs. ‘Want me to look at your shoulder?’
‘Why would you bother?’ I ask incredulously. ‘Besides, it’s not my shoulder.’
My dumb cheeks heat at the confession and I grimace at myself. I’m a grown woman and should not be embarrassed about natural bodily processes!
