“I wasn’t doing any such thing.” Cara felt her cheeks heating up. She really had been doing exactly that.
Harry took her gun from her holster and handed it to Gabe. “Take this before I follow through on that. You two are disgusting.” She frowned. “See how this eye-sexing thing you two have going on is messing with my head? I almost handed over my gun.” She snatched it back.
As Harry walked out of the room, she looked straight at Cara and winked. Of course, being Harry, the wink came with a smirk. For the first time Cara thought she might be able to learn to like Gabe’s partner.
Cricket was still jumping up, trying to get his attention. He leaned down to rub the dog’s ears, but his eyes never left Cara. “I should probably head out. Are you good?”
“I’m fine.” Not. She wanted to beg him to take her back to his house with him.
“Walk me out.”
Was that code for kissing again? A girl could hope. Before he opened the door, he flipped off the porch light. As soon as they stepped out, he pulled the door closed and then backed her up against it. He slowly slid his hands down her arms, and when his fingers found hers, he linked them together.
“I have a problem, Cara.”
“Yeah?” She had no idea where he was going with that.
“Uh-huh. I find that I’m addicted to kissing you.”
“Oh, well. Maybe I can help you with that.”
“I’m counting on it.”
He lowered his mouth to hers. She totally understood because kissing Gabe Calder was her new favorite thing to do. He let go of her hands, putting one of his behind her neck and lightly resting the other one on a breast.
“Is it okay if I touch you here?”
Was he kidding? Yes, it was more than okay, but she liked that he asked. “You can touch me wherever you want to.”
“Careful with giving me an inch, Cara. Where you’re concerned, I’m likely to take a mile.”
Before she could think of a response, he had his mouth on her neck. She felt his hot breath and the scrape of his teeth on her skin. His hand played with her breast as if it was his favorite toy.
“Gabe,” she whispered.
“Hmm?”
He sucked her earlobe between his teeth and bit down, sending the most intense pleasure she’d ever felt spiraling through her.
“Oh,” she breathlessly said.
“You make me insane.” He stepped back, dropping both his hands to his sides, his chest heaving. “I have a new fantasy, one involving a sexy librarian. In it, I’m slowly undressing her out of her black pencil skirt and crisp white blouse between the mystery shelves and the adventure books while I whisper dirty things in her ear.”
Cara barely refrained from fanning her face. “And I have one of a hot green-eyed cop. I have this picture in my mind of seeing him wearing nothing but his glasses. After he divests me of my pencil skirt and crisp white blouse, we get so naughty with his nightstick that his glasses fog up.”
He burst out laughing. “I’m putting that at the top of my bucket list.” He trailed his knuckles down her cheek. “Go inside before I have you naked on Harry’s porch.”
“Good night, Gabe.”
“One more kiss for the road.”
He left her breathless and with tingling lips. Later that night her nightmare was replaced with the most erotic dream she’d ever had. She was more than good with that.

Senator Winslow’s aide had called Harry, scheduling an appointment for them at eleven on Wednesday morning. Since it was a four-hour drive to Denver, he and Harry left before sunup. They’d walked into the senator’s office with fifteen minutes to spare, and were now cooling their heels, waiting for John Winslow to see them.
The senator was the right height and had blond hair. Too bad he wasn’t short, fat, and bald so they could rule him out. He also had a home in Dark Falls and spent time there when the senate wasn’t in session.
