Chapter Seven

WHEN THEdriver dragged Deke from the car, he went limp. It didn’t take much for a wolf to manhandle him, but he wasn’t going to make it easy. The building he was pulled into was a nondescript gray cinder-block bunker with no windows that Deke could see. Weeds grew wild up the side of the blocks, burrowing in where cracks had formed. All in all, it was a building that should have been condemned years ago. When they got inside, he was dropped to the floor.

“Wait here.”

“Because I have a choice, asshole?” he snarled.

That earned him a boot to the ribs. “Damn, I was told you were quiet and submissive, but you have a real bitch streak going.”

The guy laughed as he strode out of the room and pulled the door closed behind him. It was quiet, which gave Deke a chance to think. Okay, so they thought he was Quinn, at least for now. What happened when the Alpha showed up? He apparently knew Quinn, and he and Deke looked nothing alike. Still, he’d cross that bridge when he got to it.

The most interesting thing about being disabled was that people often thought you weren’t a threat. Deke couldn’t count the number of times he’d been in a meeting and people equated his physical limitations with mental ones. They often talked freely in front of him, and when Deke let them know he was well aware of what was going on, they’d blanch and sputter apologies. Deke might be disabled, but he was far from helpless. He dragged himself closer to the door, then reached for the handle. As soon as he got it open, he’d shift to his wolf and bolt. He might not be as fast as some wolves, but he could hold his own.

The door swung open, barely missing Deke. He’d been so intent on getting out of the room he hadn’t even heard someone approaching, though the smell should have hit him long before now. The man who stood before him was disheveled. His longish brown hair was limp and greasy, and his eyes were red-rimmed and bloodshot.

“You know, I have to say, when Kel told me you were a cripple, I was surprised.” He entered the room, and Deke scrambled back as far as he could. The man set off all kinds of bad vibes. “I can’t imagine with his survival of the fittest spiel, Ryker would have allowed you to live, but then again, you are a great fuck. Best I ever had.”

That veil of red slid over Deke’s eyes once more. This man was one of the people who’d abused Quinn?

“You probably have had so many, you don’t remember me. When Ryker told me he had a surprise for me, I thought it was going to be the girl. She’s a cute little thing, and I bet she would have been tight. Ryker had Kristopher take me to a room that was pitch-black. It was so dark, even I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Kristopher directed me to strip, so I did. Then he took my hand and put it on your ass. Now, I’m not big on anal. Or at least I wasn’t until I met you, but you were fucking hot as hell. After I nutted for the second time, Kristopher asked if I wanted to spit roast you. Never done that before, so I said sure. He had me take your mouth while he plowed your ass, using my cum as lube.”

Deke’s stomach churned. He vowed to kill this man for daring to lay a hand on Quinn.

“Man, those were fucking hot times. I hadn’t thought of fucking a man, but once I had you, I couldn’t think of anything else. I offered to buy you from Ryker, but he refused. Said your ass was too valuable to give up. It was why he kept the room dark and had incense burning. I could understand it the first time, but he kept doing it. I figured he was afraid I’d sneak in and steal you away. I can’t say I blame him, either. At least Ryker let me use you as a reward for helping him get your brother back for him.” He scoffed. “Then the idiot had to go piss off Blackthorn, and look what that got him.” He moved closer. “You know, I had so much fun with you on my visits, I’d like to give it another ride right now.”

Son of a bitch, they were going to rape him. Dread exploded through Deke. Is this how it felt for Quinn? Knowing he was helpless to stop what they were going to do to him? Always being afraid because he never knew what was going to happen to him at any given moment?

The man reached for Deke but then pulled back. “Sadly, I can’t.” He knelt down so he was eye level with Deke. “See, here’s what’s going to happen. Your Alpha is causing me no end of problems. He ran me out of town, took my plane as his own, and put my pissant brother in charge of the pack that rightfully belongs to me. So what I’m going to do is propose a trade.”

So this bastard was the former Chicago Alpha, Klein. Deke had thought it might be him. “You’re going to give him me in exchange for leaving you alone,” Deke said.

He patted Deke’s cheek. Just that simple touch made Deke’s skin crawl. “Close, but not quite. See, I know that if I gave you to him, he’d come after me with his full might. Now I’m strong, but after what I heard he did to Ryker, I know I wouldn’t stand a chance against him. When one of my people told me that Mother Moon gave him part of her power, I was so sure the guy was lying, I had him cut into tiny pieces and dropped in Lake Michigan. Then I find out it’s true.” He sighed. “What a waste. My brother’s son was a good kid too.”

Deep down, Deke had thought Sean was exaggerating the problems with Alphas. His own pack hadn’t been like Lydon, but they were decent enough. Hardworking folks who tended the earth, working with chickens and cattle for food, with gardens the pack cared for and shared together. It wasn’t an easy life, but it was good. Deke honestly believed that most packs were like his and that Lydon had only been like it was because it was blessed by Mother Moon.

“So what are you going to do with me?”

Klein stood, his cool blue gaze fixed on Deke. “As long as things go my way, you won’t be harmed.” Klein must have noted the dubious look Deke gave him, because he smiled. “You have my word on that. Like I said, I can’t have you leaving, because that would bring Blackthorn’s wrath down on me. So you’ll stay here as my guest.”

“For how long?”

That drew a scowl. “Until I fucking say otherwise. I’m still Alpha, and with Ryker dead, you need someone to guide you. You’d best get used to having a new master, because I’m taking control of this situation, starting with you.”

“I’m not—”

Before Deke could get the words out, Klein lashed out and struck him in the face. “You speak when told.” He snarled and took a step back, brushing his hand over his grease-stained shirt. “Don’t push me, Quinn. You behave and everything will be fine. Do you understand?”

“Yes,” Deke gritted out.

Another slap across the face. “I thought Ryker had trained you better than this. Yes, what?”

What the hell was he… no, he couldn’t possibly mean…. But it was obvious from the set of his jaw and the narrowing of his eyes what he expected from Deke. He had to think about Quinn. He couldn’t have Klein know he had the wrong person, because he’d probably kill Deke and go after Quinn anyway. He swallowed hard.

“Yes,Master.”

Klein sort of smiled. “Very good. I know you probably forgot the lessons, but I’ll help you recall them. And don’t worry, in no time at all, you’ll grow to enjoy being my slave too.”

Fat. Fucking. Chance.
