“Me?” Quinn wasn’t sure he liked that. “What do you mean?”

“As Sean said, bonds were meant to form when the two halves came together. When you and Deke began bonding before you were ready, I was shocked. You need more than anyone I know, but you have more to give as well. I know you wanted to be a doctor when you grew up, and I think that Lyram is right. You have a gift, and I would rather not see it wasted. Dr. Franklin usually devotes his time to the mental and physical needs of his people, but I have a feeling now that he and his wife have a daughter of their own, they will devote more time to her care and upbringing.”

“But—”

“You can do this, Quinn. You were always meant to be there for our people, and now you have that chance. Find your mate and you’ll find yourself.” She leaned in and kissed Quinn on the forehead. “You are my child, and I never want you to forget that. I thought I would need to rescue you, but it turns out you already had a family to do that for you.”

“Do you know where Deke is? Can you tell me that?”

“You have but to follow your heart. The two of you are so entwined now that nothing will ever permanently separate you.” She shivered slightly. “Your brother is getting anxious. I think he wants to come back to you.” A quick brush of fingers over Quinn’s hair. “You and Sean have always been among my favorites. Goodbye, Quinn.”

As he watched, the darkness faded, leaving Quinn peering into Sean’s violet eyes again.

“The Mother?” he asked.

Quinn nodded, too stunned to form words.

“I can feel her love for you.” He reached out and wrapped his arms around Quinn. “And I heard her plan for your future. I gotta say, I think it’s brilliant.”

Though he agreed, Quinn first wanted the one thing he needed more than anything. His mate. And knowing that Mother saw them together and found them perfect for each other? Quinn would give anything to make it happen.
