Caden had stood between him and the Bogran. He’d risked his life to help Quade. Why? Didn’t he know how precious he was? No, of course he didn’t. God, sprites were rare, but a wood sprite? Was that even possible? There hadn’t been a confirmed sighting of a wood sprite for thousands of years. And if Cadenwasa wood sprite, then did that mean…?Shit.
Quade stormed over to Matt and glared at him. “Get off your asses and grab your shit. We’re leaving in fifteen minutes.”
Kieran started whimpering. “But I won’t even have time to get my clothes packed.”
“Leave them. After this is over, you can come back, but for now wehaveto go.”
As if understanding the severity, Matt took Kieran by the arm. “Let’s go, love. If there’s danger, I want you somewhere safe.”
“Yes, Sir.”
The trill of Kieran’s voice made Matt smile. “And don’t think I’ve forgotten about your punishment.”
Kieran rolled his eyes. “Ofcourseyou didn’t.”
Turning to check on Caden, Quade found him running a hand over his chest. “You okay?”
“My chest feels weird. I must have hurt it in the crash.”
Quade moved closer. “Let me see.”
Taking a step back, Caden covered his chest with his hands. “What? No.”
Sighing, Quade grabbed Caden’s shirt and tore it down the middle. He saw the mark and held his breath. The outline of a leaf was forming directly on top of Caden’s heart. They needed to get back to Sanctuary, because if Quade was right, and if Caden was what Quade suspected, then everything—everyone—was in danger.
