I tried to answer, but it was lost in the howl of my release. A few more thrusts and Richie was right behind me. He buried himself deep one final time, then stayed there. His eyes fluttered closed, and a smile spread over his face.

“Fuck. That was… I don’t even have the words.”

I gaped at him. “Youdon’t have the words?”

He chuckled. “Shut up.” Leaning in, he kissed me again. “Remember your promise.”

How could I forget? “I’m keeping you, I swear it.”

He removed the condom, got up, and crossed the room to drop it in the trash. Then he came back over, his body glistening. He crawled into bed with me and pulled the covers up.

“Thought you said you’d never had sex with a guy before?”

“I haven’t.” He jerked toward me. “Did I hurt you?”

“Well, let’s say my ass is thanking me and saying no more.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. Why didn’t you tell me—”

“Shut up.” I kissed him. “That was the most incredible experience I’ve ever had. And I look forward to a long line of them.”

His smile slipped. “I haven’t been with many people. If I went out, I might get lucky, but we both had to be pretty drunk. And then there were complaints about… you know, my size.”

“Well, itisa fucking humungous cock.”

“Not that size.” He looked away. “Most of the time the women wanted to be on top, because they said I was too heavy.”

“You are definitely not too heavy. I liked—loved—you on top of me. You were incredible.”

A stain rose in his cheeks. “You don’t have to say that.”

Fuck. Who had done this to Richie? Who’d made him doubt himself like this? “I never just say something. If I tell you, then you know it’s true. Have I ever lied to you?”

He shook his head.

“Then take what I’m saying as truth.” I cupped his cheek. “Wanna know a secret?”

“Yes, please.”

“All my life I wanted to find someone I could call my own. Someone who’d stand by my side, be proud and say, Max is mine. I should have known that was never going to happen, because I’ve only ever been in love once, and that’s with you.”

His eyes shone. “Thank you. I can’t tell you how much that means to me.”

I tugged him closer. “You don’t have to thank me for loving you. I swear to God, it’s my pleasure.”

We drifted off to sleep with him wrapped around me. It was the best rest of my life. Until the stupid phone rang.

Fumbling around, I found it on the nightstand and picked it up without bothering to look at who it was. “I hope this is important, because I’m busy right now.”

“Max?” Mom sniffled. “Honey, I….” She broke down, crying so hard, I couldn’t understand her.

“Mom? What’s wrong?”

Richie was up immediately. He put a hand on my back, rubbing slow circles over it. It took a few moments of me imploring Mom to calm down before she was finally able to get the words out.

“Walter was playing golf and…. And he had a heart attack. I know you’re busy, but if you could come, I would—”

“I’m on my way.”
