“Easy now,” Khaos says, worry entering his gaze as he looks between me and my much smaller axes and Hades and his giant sword.

It occurs to me that he hasn’t really seen me fight, not against an opponent, and that he knows how strong Hades is because they’ve been friends for centuries and he’s a god.

He catches my gaze, and I grin at him, blowing him a kiss and making his eyes widen before I charge Hades.

Hades’ smile is huge as he swings his sword with ease, and I use my magic to move out of the way. He picks up the pace as I start to move faster too, and my swords make an ‘X’ blocking his blow as it comes for me.

This is fucking awesome.

Khaos

My heart is in my throat.

I know she can fight, but until this moment, watching her go up against Hades, I didn’t appreciate just how fucking good at it she is.

He isn’t going easy on her, quite the opposite, actually, and she’s more than holding her own.

She’s making him work for it.

“It’s impressive, isn’t it?” Loki asks quietly from beside me.

I nod, “It’s fucking terrifying.”

He chuckles, “It always is, watching the woman you love throw herself into dangerous situations. She can handle it though, and more than that, she fucking loves it.”

I decide not to comment on the love part of the sentence, not because I don’t agree with him, but because I haven’t quite wrapped my head around it yet. Instead, I continue.

“That much is obvious, not once has her smile faltered,” I agree with a smile of my own, and crossing my arms over my chest to stop myself from interfering when Hades gets a little too close to landing a blow for my liking.

“It doesn’t even when she’s fighting an actual enemy, she’s fucking magnificent,” he replies softly, his gaze never moving away from her.

“She’s as bloodthirsty and violent as the rest of us,” I state.

“I would venture more so,” Loki replies, surprising me. He catches my surprised look and smiles, “Just wait, you’ll see.”

“Interesting,” I mutter.

Changing the subject, he adds, “I don’t know how much longer we’re all going to last here. We’ve only been here for two days, and I’m feeling twitchy as hell. There’s so much shit that we have to do, and we’re here, at the academy.”

I nod and frown, “I know. There has to be a reason why you’ve been called back here after so much time though. Maybe the book that we need to find really is in the library here, or even somewhere else on the school grounds.”

He’s silent for a moment as he thinks over my words and then shrugs, “Yeah, maybe.”

His silence reminds me that I wanted to check in on him.

“Have you had blood yet, a proper feed?” I ask quietly.

Loki’s gaze briefly darts in my direction before moving back to Farren and Hades.

“I’ve had a glass with food, like I usually would,” he replies somewhat evasively.

“But you haven’t fed properly?” I ask with surprise. It’s been far longer than he should have been able to go without drinking.

He shakes his head, “I haven’t needed to. The glasses with meals have been enough.”

“And you feel fine?” I double-check.

He nods, “I feel great. Don’t worry, the guys are all aware. Storm checked in with me about it this morning.”
