She swore she could see stars. All the heavens opened to her sight as Ewan stamped his claim on her. He knew what this did to her body. How frantic it would make her. How she would soon plead for him to take her to the floor, and once he had thrust his cock deep into her sex, beg him to ride her hard and fast—until her world shattered.
“Ewan,” she whispered as she gripped his shoulders to steady herself. She was incapable of saying any other words.
“Floor or bed?” he asked.
If she gave him an answer, any chance of her having even the slightest amount of control over the rest of their stay would be gone in an instant. Ewan would have her in a permanent state of undress, resting, and eating, before going back for another round of heated coupling.
Drawing in a shaky breath, she placed a hand softly on his cheek. He glanced up at her and grinned. “Well?”
“Stand for me. You are not the only one who is hungry. I want something in my mouth.”
“Oh. You naughty girl.”
He got to his feet in one easy move. As Caroline slowly dropped to her knees, Ewan brushed his hand over her hair, then left it to rest on her head.
A quick flick of buttons, and his erection sprang free. Caroline wrapped her hand around his cock, then bent and traced her tongue along its length. When she took him into her mouth, licking and sucking, Ewan’s grip on her hair tightened.
Now let’s see how well you handle being under my command, Lord Strathmore.
She worked her mouth over the soft head and to the sensitive underside of his manhood, quietly relishing the hushed curses and pleas for mercy, which Ewan offered up. But Caroline had no intention of releasing her man from the torture. Not until she had won his cry of completion. Until Ewan had yielded his everything to her.
ChapterTen
The sun had long disappeared over the top of the craggy rim of the Key when Caroline and Ewan finally ventured out from the lodge. They had spent the whole day inside. In between their intense moments of lovemaking, they had talked, sharing thoughts and plans for the future.
For the first time in a very long time, Caroline held a sense of peace in her heart. Her mind wasn’t filled with concerns; it was at ease. She was able to ponder other things—the things that really did matter.
Caroline hadn’t wished to come here, but every moment she spent alone with Ewan, she was grateful that he had insisted. For the gift of this time.
She paused in the doorway and leaned against the massive oak frame, quietly observing Ewan as he made his way down the front steps of the hunting lodge. His long woolen coat couldn’t hide the magnificence of his broad shoulders.
Lord, I love that man.
Wrapped up in the plaid woolen blanket which she had dragged from the bed, she followed him outside. In summer, they often lit fires, and family and guests sat around talking and sharing the night. December, however, was too cold to consider such a thing.
Tonight, was just for them. For their own private time of stargazing. Here, there was no one else for her to worry about. She had Ewan and he was her everything.
High above them, the heavens were clear, and the sky was a bright mass of stars, all shining and blinking away.
The sky over central London was too often a thick blanket of smoke from the fires which burned in every home. But here in Scotland, the air was clean, and the constellations were easy to spot.
They made their way to a spot in the center of the Key, a little way away from the edge of the lake. Caroline settled with her back to Ewan’s chest, and he wrapped his arms around her. She lifted her gaze, taking in the wonderous sight. She traced the stars of the great bear, then shifted her search to lower in the sky.
“Have you found it yet?” he asked.
A grin spread across her lips. She knew exactly what he was asking. They had played this game more times than she could count. The first to find the Dog Star was the winner.
“Are you Sirius?” she replied. That pun was as old as time, but it still got a laugh.
“I am always serious about Sirius. Now tell me, have you found it?”
Caroline nodded. “It is the brightest star in the sky at this time of the year, so yes. But have you found Orion’s Belt?”
“Of course, I have. I looked for it the night we arrived at the castle. December is the only month you can reliably see it up here. I’ve always used it as a bit of touchstone. When I can see it, I know I am truly home,” he replied, his voice full of wistful longing.
Ewan might well be one of the most powerful men in England, wielding influence throughout London both in society and in politics, but at heart, he was still a Scotsman.
“If you ever had to choose between our homes, where would you live? London or here?” she asked.
