Cass:You still think she’s a double agent?

Lilah:Leave my friend alone.Find her for me.I think she’s in trouble.

Mal:We will figure out what’s happening.

ChapterForty-Eight

Mal:You can’t go to visit Simone.

Cass:Don’t text her while she’s driving.

Lilah:Exactly, don’t text me.How dare you two hide her whereabouts from me.I was worried.

Mal:It’s classified.

Lilah:At least your brother is alive.

Mal:Yes, but he can’t remember much of what happened to him.

Lilah:You said his memory was back.

Mal:Most of it is, but we can’t figure out who attacked him until he remembers the rest.

Cass:Give him time.

ChapterForty-Nine

Lilah:Simone needs a safe space.I’m bringing her to the cabin.

Mal:Nope. No one goes to the safe house. Not even her.

Cass:She’s not the mole.

Lilah:My best friend would never be the mole. Are you two still looking for the heir?

Mal:Yep, and we’re running out of options.

Lilah:You could ask Mom.She’s lived in this town since before I was born—I think.

Mal:Great idea.Let me ask the woman who spreads rumors faster than the speed of light if she can help me with the Syndicate. That won’t scare anyone in town.

Cass:She can keep secrets. It’s how you ask.

Mal:Then you do it.

Cass:I will, and, Lilah, your friend, can go to the apartment. That’s safe and won’t give away our whereabouts.

Lilah:This is me rolling my eyes and judging you both.I’m safe.

Mal:We’ll decide if you’re safe.

ChapterFifty
