But today’s not one of those days…

I wait a few doors down from Cupid's Coffee, the coffee shop Kate’s inside of.

Twenty minutes tick by. I smile and nod at an elderly lady who passes me by. A little kid sticks his tongue out as his mum drags him along behind her. A yappy terrier sniffs my feet while his stoner owner looks me up and down, practically daring me to say something about his dog so he can start a scene.

It’s always the same with the weak and the pathetic. They want to instigate something. Play the victim.

But I just reach down and scratch the dog's head.

Then, just as Stoner McDogface loses interest in me and walks off, Kate comes bursting out the coffee shop door.

Her phone’s to her ear, she’s holding a tray full of coffees and in the other hand is a large brown paper carrier bag, full of what I presume is their lunch.

The talking on the phone wasn’t in the plan, but I’m a pro, and I just roll with it.

I walk towards her, looking at my own phone. Pretending like I’m just a regular guy out for a stroll. On his way to pick up his afternoon hit of caffeine.

Then, purposefully walking straight into Kate’s path, we do that little dance people do when they both try and go the same way at the same time, except this time it’s no accident.

I’ve got the reflexes of a cat. I mirror her movements and bump into her slightly.

She looks up into my face and recognition spreads across her beautiful face.

“I’ve got to go,” she says to whoever she was speaking to on the phone.

I look at her like I’m just realizing who she is. “Hey!” I scratch my head and give her my best, charming smile. “Don’t I know you?”

“We met,” she blushes, “the other night… you picked me up… you weren’t wearing quite so many clothes at the time.”

My cock thickens at the memory of her body so close. But I manage to keep it cool. “You want a hand with those bags?”

“I’m just over there,” she says, pointing towards her car with her head.

“What?” I say, “can’t a guy help a pretty lady to her car anymore?”

She smiles at the compliment and passes me her food bag. It’s literally only a few steps to her car, but I savor every single one of them.

Being near her is intoxicating. Her luscious, round hips. The soft appeal of her mouth. I want this woman. I need her.

“Hey.” I scratch my chin and pretend like I’ve just had a spur-of-the-moment idea. “What you doing Friday night?”

“I dunno,” she says, turning her back to me as she puts the food on the empty front seat. Giving me a heavenly view of her wide, round ass. “Why?”

I wait for her to turn back around and then I step forward. Placing one hand on the roof of her car I take her chin in my other. “Because I’m taking you out on a date.” I kiss her, so softly it’s like I’m tickling her with my lips, “that’s why.”

Kate

It’s Friday night and I’m pulling up outside the restaurant I’m meeting Dax at.

“Here we are,” the cab driver says.

I give him his money and shimmy out of the car.

My heart is literally thumping in my chest. It’s only been a few days since Dax asked me out, and I’ve hardly been able to think about anything else.

There’s something about him. I don’t know whether it’s his dark, good looks, or simply the dominating presence that surrounds him.
