“Just doing my job,” Kaiden says.

I look at him again. My lady parts tingle as his thumb rubs little circles on my hand.

“Still saved my life, though.”

We sit in silence for a minute. I don’t know whether it’s the oxygen, but I swear a moment passes between me and Kaiden. I want to grab him by the back of the neck and pull his mouth between my legs.

I bet he’s good at licking pussy.

He has big, pink lips. A grizzly layer of silver stubble covers his chiseled, square jaw.

He's older than me, but that doesn't matter. In fact, it only makes him hotter. A silver fox. Still in good shape. Big enough to pick me up and carry me without breaking a sweat.

I could spend all day staring at him.

“What the–” A flash explodes at the end of the ambulance. I close my eyes. Little white dots dance along the insides of my eyelids.

“Hey!” Kaiden leaps up and slams the doors closed. “Get out of here!”

He comes back and sits down next to me. He’s so big, it looks like he’s sitting in a dollhouse.

“Who was that?”

“Just some dumbass reporters,” he says. “They’ve been hanging around ever since we got back.A beautiful woman rescued from the flames. You’ll be famous by dinner.”

I jump up out of the gurney. My legs feel like jello.

Did he just call me gorgeous?

“No,” I mumble, falling against Kaiden.

He wraps his arms around me and stops me from falling.

“Woah.” He brushes some hair out my face. “Take it easy, Willa. You need your rest.”

Panic surges through every vein in my body. “You don’t understand. I need to get out of here. It’s not safe.”

I try and push past him, but I’m too weak. He’s too strong. No matter what I do, he holds me in place. His arms are like a vice.

“It’s okay,” he whispers. His mouth is right by my ear. The deep rumble of his voice would be southing in any other circumstance. “You’re okay now. You’re safe.”

“I’m not!” For a moment, I want to knee him in the balls. Maybe then he’d let me go. But, I can’t. He just saved my life. What kind of woman would I be if I repaid him like that. “You don’t understand!”

I sit back down on the gurney. The oxygen mask is on the floor. I pick it up and take a deep gulp. It calms me down… for about a second.

Kaiden leans forward and wipes my eyes with his fingers. I hold his wrist. It feels good to be touching him. Safe. Like a lighthouse in a storm.

“I wasn’t in that cabin on vacation, Kaiden,” I say. “I wasn’t out here having fun or relaxing or doing whatever it is people do when they come out here. I was hiding.”

“Hiding?”

“That’s right.” I look away from him as I start to tell my story. I don’t want to see the reactions on his face. “My boyfriend,” I say, “well... my ex-boyfriend. He’s a bad man. I mean, a really fucking bad man.”

“And he’s looking for you?” He sits down next to me on the gurney. He puts an arm around my shoulders. I lean into him. Loving the way it feels to be so close to a real man.

Our thighs touch. I reach out and put my hand on his leg. My fingers are only a few inches away from his cock.

“I ran away from him,” I say. “I didn’t know the kind of person he was when we first started dating. He told me he was a salesman. He told me he sold insurance. But then I started to see things. I started to hear things.”
