“And here’s something borrowed.” I reach behind my neck and unclasp the gold chain I’ve worn every day since I was a teenager and my mother died in a hit and run.
Her eyes pop open at the sight of it. I don’t know how, but she can tell it’s precious to me. “Are you sure?”
I put it in her hand and close her fingers around my precious keepsake. “I wouldn’t be lending it to you, if I wasn’t,” I say. “Besides, what kind of brother-in-law would I be if I didn’t do everything I can to make my new sister's wedding day as awesome as humanly possible?”
Eden’s jaw practically hits the floor. “Wait? Brother-in-law?” she says. “You’rethatDana? I didn’t think you were going to make it?”
I take a step closer to her, closing the distance until our bodies are almost touching.
“What?” I say, “and miss out on meeting you?”
Her cheeks turn a bright, healthy pink. I can’t help but imagine what they will like after I make her come.
“We should be getting back,” she says.
I lower my mouth until it’s softly touching her cheek. Right next to her lips. Her body is trembling. Like a tiny little animal that’s been caught out in the cold.
“We will,” I say. “After this.”
I hold the back of her head in my hand and look down into her eyes. She’s so beautiful, it hurts.
My lips press against her mouth and she closes her eyes. Our tongues touch, dancing back and forth. My hardness grows and grows and threatens to break out of the confines of its cotton-covered cell.
“Holy crap,” she says, pulling away from me, her tongue licking her lips.
I kiss her again, gently on the side of the face. My fingers run down the side of her body, taking in her beautiful, bell-shaped curves.
“I could spend all day out here with you,” I say. “But right now, we have to get back to the church.”
She looks at the little, silver watch on her wrist. “Oh, shit!” she says, “the wedding!”

I’m kind ofworried about how Kate will react to my little collection of good luck charms.
It’s very obvious I didn’t leave them in my car. But as soon as she sees them, her face lights up, and I know she's not going to be mad.
“They’re perfect,” she says, threading the flowers into her hair and then looking at the heart-shaped stone with tears in her eyes.
“See, I told you I had everything taken care of,” I say.
She puts her arms around my neck and hugs me tight. “Yeah, right,” she laughs.
I pull away from her and brush a little bit of lint from her shoulder. Her dress is perfect. She looks like an angel.
“You ready?” I ask.
“Can’t wait,” she says.
I bite my lip, trying to think of the best way to ask my next question. “You know Dana?” I say. “Your soon-to-be brother-in-law?”
“Oh, god,” she says. “He’s such a brute! Have you met him yet? Richard said he wasn’t going to come, but then he just showed up here at the last minute. We don’t even have a place set for him at the reception. It’s so inconsiderate. I mean, the least he could have done is phoned us or left us a message. Now I’ve had to run around and make sure there’s going to be space for him, and something to eat. On my wedding day!” A cheeky smile spreads across her face. “I put him at the children’s table. Serves him right for not RSVPing.”
“Yeah, he’s the worst,” I say. “Do you think it would be weird if me and him... hooked up?”
“What!”
