“What about the ones that ran? Do you want us to go afterthem?”

“No.” Michael answered firmly, “They aren’t my priority right now. She is.” He started giving orders, “Andy, take the others from Leo’s team and sweep the forest ahead of us. I want a straight path to Moirae land with no threats. We move once you give the allclear.”

“On it.” The unfamiliar voicesaid.

“Darius, go with himand…”

“No.” The harsh voice cut Michael off and through the bond she could feel the surprise that swept through hermate.

“What?”

“I said no .” The man he’d called Darius spoke again, his tone just as firm and harsh as before. “I’m not going with the scout team. I’m staying here with you and withthem.”

“Leo will stay and help me get the females to safety.” Michael’s voice wasn’t as firm this time, as if he knew his man wasn’t going to accept that even as he saidit.

“No.” The answer came again, “Leo needs to get back to safe land too. He’s not your backup. I am. I’m staying,Michael.”

“I don’t need protection.” It was Leo that snorted. She’d have known the sound anywhere. He was offended that this man, whoever he was, thought he couldn’t handle himself. “I’m an Alpha and I can hold my own thank you verymuch.”

“You’re not getting rid of me that easily, pretty boy.” The harsh voice was back and sounded more deadly thanever.

Pretty boy? Oh God, Leo was going to take his head off. Luna didn’t know whether she should tell the other man to look out for the swing Leo was no doubt leveling at his head or laugh. Leowaspretty. She and her sisters loved to tease him about how all the girls swooned for his good looks. But she couldn’t remember anyone else ever daring to taunt him likethat.

Whoever this man was, he had a big set of balls on him that was forsure.

“Enough.” Michael barked, “Darius is right. Not that you can’t protect yourself but that we can use all the protection we can get. If we come across a threat I won’t be able to fight carrying Luna. I’ll need both ofyou.”

“But…” Leo started again only to get cutoff.

“I’m not risking the safety of my mate because you two are having some sort of pissing contest.” Michael growled. “Leo, take the lead when Andy gives the all clear. Nova, stay behind him. Darius, you protect myback.”

“Always.” The other man didn’t seem quite so upset now that he’d gotten hisway.

“Good. Now. Let’s gohome.”

Luna rested her head against Michael’s chest when she felt him start moving. He cradled her to him gently despite his tight hold. He carried her as if she didn’t weigh a thing and she felt like she was floating again. It was the floating that got her, that swept her up and had her drifting away into the darkness that wanted tocome.

She could only hope that when she woke again that all of this hadn’t been some sort of dream. That she was really safe and that Michael had really come forher.
