“Your heart wish came true.” Her fingers dance over the sensitive skin outlining the mark.

“As did yours.” I catch her hand in mine and press a kiss to her palm. “For I am head-over-heels in love with you.”

“Oh, Rune.” Her lips tremble.

I pull her back down to me, and she rests on my chest, her chin propped on the back of one hand while the other teases across my skin. “I’ve been thinking about what Luke said. Our heart wishes were so powerful they caused everything that happened.”

“Our heart wishes were never swapped,” I say. “They also both wanted exactly the same thing: the two of us mated and in love.”

“So our heart wishes swapped the ‘smaller’ wishes. Why?To force us to spend time together?” Her lips curl on one side, and mischief sparkles in her green eyes. “To make youfinallytalk to me?”

I give an amused grunt. “It worked, didn’t it?”

“I guess we needed something to make us get to know each other… or at least you did.”

“Not for lack of desire.” I coil a lock of her hair around my fingers, loving the silky slide of it over my skin. “I’ve been attracted to you since the first moment I saw you.”

“Well, you sure had a funny way of showing it.” She taps my chest, grinning up at me impishly. “You certainly never spoke to me before the wish swap!”

“I didn’t know how.” It’s hard to admit, yet she deserves to know my reticence had nothing to do with her. “I’d only been able to shift into my fae form for a couple of months by that point. Everything here on Earth was too loud, too colorful, too new. And you, my fire, were the most colorful thing of all.” I twirl a lock of her fiery hair around my finger. “I felt far too uncertain of how to be a man to try to be one with you.”

“And now?” Her voice gets quiet. “Do you wish you were still a wolf… and only a wolf like you used to be in Faerie?”

“If you’d asked me that two months ago, I would have said yes.” I stroke her bright-red hair, coiling little licks of its flame around my fingers. “But cu sith were never meant to have only one form. We’re supposed to shift at will and live full lives made richer by each different experience.”

“It’s the cheese, isn’t it?” She grins up at me. “It’s okay. You can totally tell me you love being a man because of thecheese.”

“It’s the cheese.” I keep my expression serious and tip my head.

“You weren’t supposed to agree!” Chuckling, she gives me a playful tap with the back of her hand. “You were supposed to say it’s me.”

“You know it’s you, you little minx.” I give her my best wicked smile. “And your skin. By the goddess, the feel of your skin against mine is enough to make me want to keep you naked in my bed for the next fifty years.”

“Fifty years, huh?” Autumn wiggles her hips back and forth.

The tug of her entrance against my knot makes me grunt as aftershocks shoot through me.

“Oh!” Autumn gasps. “That’s so… I’m sofull.”

I cup her cheek. “Is it all right?”

“Oh, yeah.” She moves again, lifting up to bounce on me with an excited little inhale. “Better than all right. How long did you say this was actually going to last?”

“Ten to twelve hours this first time.”

“Hours!” Her eyes go wide. “Whatever will we do?” She bounces again, and the aftershock makes my hips snap up to meet her. I growl, a low rumble full of need, and she gasps as we start to move together, pleasure making her eyes go dreamy.

My fire.

My love.

A loud bleat outside the window wakes us early the next morning. Autumn rolls from bed and puts on a cranberry-red robe. I pull on my jeans and follow her into the kitchen, shrugging into my shirt as I go.

The door opens on a cool blast of air and Babybelle, who gallops into the kitchen and hops around the redheaded witch’s feet, letting out a long series of complaints.

Autumn laughs and glances at me. “She’s very upset that we forgot about her.” Then she leans over and picks up her familiar. “I didn’t forget. I told you ‘later,’ and this is later.”

The mini-goat taps a hoof to Autumn’s chest and baas.
