He sent her on her way with another kiss, and she stepped out into the hall with a wide, dreamy smile on her lips.
But that happy bubble she was floating on popped the instant she spotted Ruby pacing back and forth in front of the door to the bridal suite.
“Ruby? What’s wrong?”
Pausing her frantic pacing, Ruby jerked her head up, her eyes glistening with tears. “I screwed up, Frankie. I screwed up so fucking bad and everyone is going to hate me.”
“Oh, honey.” Reaching for her friend, Frankie took Ruby’s hands in hers and squeezed. “I’m sure it’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be in your head. Take a deep breath and then tell me what’s going on.”
Ruby did as she was told, dragging in a stuttering breath. But when her terrified gaze locked on Frankie’s, she was left with the sinking feeling that maybe it was actually as bad as Ruby was making it out to be.
“I… I lost the rings.”
