Uncle? Am I?“You’re welcome, Makin. You did very well. I’m impressed.”
“Can I groom her too?”
“Yes. All the equipment is outside her stall.”
The boy beamed and led Tia after the others. Ahsan lingered next to his father with Shade.
“What happened out there?” Waqas asked.
Jasim looked at Ahsan.
“One of the riders went in front of me. It was a foul.”
“You deliberately hit him with your crop, then your mallet.” Jasim kept looking at his nephew.
“Accidents. They happen in polo. You know that.”
“And the horse’s mouth?”
“The bit didn’t fit properly.”
“It did. You pulled too hard. You hurt her.”
“Ahsan!” Waqas snapped.
The boy sucked in his cheeks. “I’m sorry.” The apology was begrudging.
Jasim nodded. “You rode well on Shade. Take her back to the stables, please.”
“Will someone look after her?”
“Yes, if you don’t want to groom her. If you have your swimming trunks, you could go for a swim, if your father agrees.”
Waqas nodded and Ahsan led her away.
“Want me to take Dream, sir?” Diego called.
Jasim wanted to laugh at thesir, but all his grooms turned on the charm when they thought it necessary.
“Yes, please.” Jasim climbed down and Diego took Dream back.
“So you don’t do the grooming either,” Waqas said.
“That’s the benefit of being the boss.”
His brother chuckled.
“How is father?” Jasim asked as they walked back to the house.
“Getting older by the day but his health is good.”
“If you think he’d like to hear it, send him my best wishes.”
“I doubt he’d want to receive them, unless you’ve changed.”
Jasim shrugged. He didn’t mean it anyway.
“How much longer are you in the UK for?”
