Nix had heard Emmett’ssorry. But Emmett had been right in what he’d said. Nix deserved to be broken day after day. He wasn’t there by mistake. He hadn’t been unfairly judged. As bad as Hell was, it could be worse. And in spite of how annoying Emmett was, and hewasfucking annoying, Nix couldn’t deny he was attracted to him. If they’d got off to a better start, maybe both of them would have been in the same bed right now. Nix had deliberately climbed naked into the one Emmett had clearly used, hoping he might join him. But the pig headed arsehole was going to play hard to get.

Except he could be got. Nix just had to do a bit of persuading. Though not tonight. It would be more rewarding if Emmett came to him. Much more rewarding. An added bonus to this—holiday from Hell—or whatever it was.

Though there was one thing worrying him. More than one thing, but this particular worry was a big one. Was Emmett the angel he was expected to take back to hell? Had Erlik and Xaphan known he’d be partnered with Emmett? The guy had more or less landed in Nix’s lap.Except not quite, unfortunately. But in what other way was Nix going to come across an angel?

The idea of forcing anyone to endure what he’d endured for the last year, didn’t sit easy on his conscience. And hedidhave a conscience. He knew right from wrong, and to bring the annoying Emmett into his vile world was definitely wrong.

Yet when Nix thought of having his own place down there, privileges, an element of peace… It was tempting.

He wasn’t going to think about it.Think about something else. This bed.The bed was…bliss. It was almost cruel to let him enjoy the pleasure of it only for it to be taken away again. But why spoil pleasure by worrying about losing it? He’d almost forgotten how good it felt to be clean, particularly his hair that he’d washed and washed and washed. Still, he wouldn’t object to getting down and dirty with Emmett, even if the angel wasn’t his type.

Tomorrow, he’d buy lube. They didn’t need condoms, but Emmett might turn out to be pissy about that, so he’d buy those too, just in case. Thinking about sex made his dick hard. Nix so very nearly wrapped his fingers around his cock, but by some miracle restrained himself. He could go a night without wanking.

He slid faster into sleep than he had for a year. It had to be because he felt safe.Fucking bliss.

Nix jerked awake to find himself lying on a red leather couch in a large rectangular room with a sea view, filmy curtains billowing in the breeze, sun shining in the sky. He thought he must be dreaming, but it didn’t feel like a dream. It was too real. He sat up, looked around and saw a guy leaning against a wall, staring at him. No one he recognised. Nix pushed to his feet.

The guy was taller than him, maybe six five, had short white hair, piercings and tattoos. He wore faded grey jeans and a tight black T-shirt. Exactly his type apart from the overly developed biceps and the dark look in the man’s eyes. A look that scared Nix shitless. In an instant, the guy’s expression changed and he gave Nix a cheeky smile. Was that supposed to be disarming? Then the biceps shrank. What the hell? This isn’t a dream.

“No, it’s not,” the man said.

Oh fuck.

“I’m Vin. You’re Phoenix and you’re going to raisemefrom the ashes.”

Nix started to think about what that might mean but got distracted by what stood in front of him. The guy was gorgeous. Except he probably wasn’t. More than likely it was an illusion.

Vin laughed.

And he can read my mind. Fuck.“You’re a demon. And you’re in my head.”

“Yes, and I can see a brain cell. What a surprise.”

“Get out of my head.”

“No.”

Nix swallowed hard.

“Thank you for bringing me out of hell.” The guy winked at him.

“What? When did…? How?” That moment when he’d stumbled as he’d moved through the crack…Oh shit. Now he remembered. He’d thought he was suffocating. Something thick and dark had invaded him.

“Yes,then.” Vin flashed him an evil grin.

“You’re inside me.”

“I slipped into your body, but I seem temporarily unable to exert any control over you unless you’re sleeping. That surprises me. I quite like surprises, though you’re going to have to let me take charge now.”

Vin moved towards him and Nix backed away.Wake up, wake up!

“Stop fighting me!” Vin snarled. “Let me take over. Our world will be magnificent.”

Nix jerked up his hand and slapped his own face, then woke to find himself being pinned down by Emmett.

“You’re having a nightmare. You’re okay. You’re not in Hell. You’re safe.”
