“Rashid was stabbed in the chest by the grey-haired guy whose name is James Greyson. Well, maybe it isn’t, but it’s the name he gave the car dealership. Greyson was looking for a people carrier last week. He left his name and number with Rashid’s colleague.”
“Hi.” Harry had sidled up to Rashid and was practically fluttering his eyelashes. “I saw your body on the floor when I walked into the office. I didn’t see you though.”
“I was hiding under the desk feeling really freaked out.”
“I was stabbed as well. Possibly by the same guy.”
“Emmett told me.” Rashid smiled at Harry.
Harry looked as though he’d been hit by a pillow, dazed but uninjured.Oh God.
“And now we have two.” Nix gave a short laugh. “Are we collecting them?”
“What was I supposed to do?” Emmett sighed. “I have no idea how to convince either of them to move on. Rashid wouldn’t go and I couldn’t just leave him wandering around. Greyson might have come back.”
“Rashid would have moved on eventually. So will the Pest. Sooner rather than later if he has any sense.”
“I don’t like that nickname either,” Harry called, then turned back to Rashid. “We’re trying to find a name for me because I’m their incredibly useful sidekick.”
“That’s cool.” Rashid smiled again and Harry smiled back.
Nix rolled his eyes and turned to Emmett. “What’s your plan now?”
“Let’s go and have some lunch.”
“You want to discuss what we’re going to do when I’m not there.” Harry frowned. “I thought we were a team.”
“We are not a team,” Nix said.
“What? I’m your annoying but cute sidekick.”
Rashid laughed.
“We’re going for lunch because I’m hungry,” Emmett said. “Rashid managed a shower, Harry. I gave him some of my clothes. You can probably have one too. I hadn’t thought about you wearing our stuff, but help yourself if you can find something to fit. I’ve left the drawers open in case you can’t manage to do that. I’ve put Rashid’s clothes in the washing machine. We can wash yours as well. Don’t leave the flat. You can watch the TV now you can work the remote.”
“Oh my God. A shower!” Harry raced to the bathroom.
“Can you work the controls?” Rashid asked.
A moment later, Harry yelled back, “Yes!”
“Well, the kids are happy,” Nix said with a laugh.
Emmett smiled.
“Where do you want to go?” Nix asked once they were on the stairs.
“Greenwich is fine.”
“We’ll take the bike in case we get another text.”
They completed the short journey into town without a call.
“Want to get fish and chips and sit by the river?” Emmett asked, once they’d parked.
“Okay.”
Nix’s mouth watered as they waited in the chip shop. “Did you get fish and chips up there?”
