“I’m not inexperienced,” Emmett snapped. “I got the hang of what to do when I was—”

“Thirty-three?”

“You… I think it’s time to chain you up.”

“You’re not going to thrash me first?”

“You’ve not been bad enough. You have to deserve a thrashing.”

Phoenix’s laugh made Emmett smile.

The plastic-coated chains and the padlock worked better to keep Phoenix comfortable than the neck ties. There was enough give that his hands could be by his sides. But when Emmett settled next to him, Phoenix shook his head. “You can’t sleep with me.”

“Why not?”

“There’s enough chain for Vin to wrap around your neck and strangle you. Again.”

“Oh.”

“We didn’t think that through.”

Emmett leaned over and kissed him, then moved into the other bed. He suspected a demon would have no problem breaking the wooden slats the chain was wrapped around, but maybe Emmett would hear the noise in time to wake Phoenix before Vin killed him.
