“After what?”
“Our first mission.” She explained the plan to rescue Jayden.
“You’ll risk everyone’s lives for one man?”
“We need him. He’s powerful and knows the city better than anyone. And it’s not up for negotiation.I’min charge.”
“And the Invisible Sword is okay with you just taking over?”
“They will be.” Might as well be positive that it would work.
“What does that mean?”
“If I wake the power of The Eyes, I’m their true leader.”
“You have the real Eyes?”
“Yes.”
“And how do you wake the power?”
“That’s where you come in.”
“Me?”
And now for the difficult part. “You have a certain expertise that is required.”
He leaned against the edge of the desk. “Why do I have a feeling I’m not going to like this?”
“You won’t. You’ll probably refuse and then I’ll have to find another person.” Ximen said he would if she was desperate.
“What would I need to do?” he asked.
“In order to wake The Eyes, I must sacrifice my own eyes.”
CHAPTER

Rendor straightened. “Your eyes? Are you in—”
Shyla held up her hand, stopping him. “I’m serious. Once my eyes are removed, Tamburah’s Eyes will be set into my empty eye sockets. If I’m worthy, that will wake the power and I’ll be able to see again.”
“And if you’re not worthy?”
“I’ll be blind.”
“Aside from the insanity of this…sacrifice, what are the chances it’ll work?”
“It doesn’t matter. I’m taking a leap of faith.” In herself.
“You and faith don’t exactly mix.”
“We do now. Well…I doubt the Heliacal Priestess and I will ever see eye to eye.” She laughed at the unintended joke.
Rendor grabbed her shoulders. “Shyla, this is serious!”
“I know.”
