If Angelica’s dead, she can’t fight him for the will. If I’m dead too, I can’t retaliate.
As Peter’s daughter, Angelica is entitled to her father’s estate, but nothing else. The process is archaic to say the least, but since Peter never had a male heir, Angelica would need to be married to get control of the clan—which is where I come in. As her husband, I can challenge the terms of this new will. Philip knows this, which is why he’ll probably try anything to get rid of me.
I just need to find out who told Philip about the wedding.
“I’ll go home and get her a change of clothes,” I say, walking out of his office. “My men will stay on the property. If you leave, station two at her room door.”
When I step outside, I spot Elias and wave at him to join me at my car.
“You’re coming with me. We’ll be back in less than an hour.”
I’m not a stranger to threats, but now that Angelica and I have been targeted, I need to be extra vigilant. So, I’ve been traveling with a bodyguard for the past three days.
We hop in our cars and leave Grant’s property.
As a doctor for the mob, he makes a hefty sum, so he’s able to afford an isolated mansion on the hills of Cebrene Heights. Close enough to be available when we need him but secluded enough to not be easily accessible for any attacks.
I dial Xander’s number on my phone and he picks up after a couple rings.
“Afentikó,” he greets me.
“Xan. Where are we with the search?”
“We discovered Aria’s father was having her phone tapped, so I’m assuming he overheard a conversation about the wedding between her and Angelica.”
It’s the only plausible answer. No one knew we were getting married at the church except our close friends. Eldora couldn’t have been the one to speak, given I’d wired the phones at the Kouvalakis estate, and she doesn’t have a cell phone. That eliminates Helen out of the equation too.
Dion, Xander, and Hendrick are all on my side and would never betray me for a Kouvalakis or Kastellanos.
Gianis proved himself by betraying his own clan, so I doubt he’d two-time us.
That left Angelica’s three friends from Antium and Aria.
I’d investigated her college friends and their pasts and had them followed in the year I lived in The Big A, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Either way, they didn’t know when we were getting married until the day before the wedding when I had Hendrick summon them to Cebrene.
So, the only realistic way Philip could’ve gotten that information is through his daughter’s conversations.
“Were you able to trace any of the calls?” I ask Xander.
“Yes, all the way to a remote area in the outskirts of Cebrene. I think we found him, boss. He’s underground. There are hundreds of tunnels in which he and his men must be hiding.”
A mix of disbelief and overwhelming respite washes over me. Philip was right under our nose the entire time.
We did a thorough search of all the underground tunnels in Cebrene and couldn’t find a soul. How did we miss an entire covert hideout? “Is the tunnel linked to the Sisterhood’s property?”
“No. I sent a drone over the location and couldn’t find an obvious point of entry. The entrance could be in Antium or Cebrene, but the tunnel links both cities.”
Somehow, Peter and Philip were able to hide the existence of these tunnels and were using them to funnel women over to Antium.
“Thanks, Xan. Get Hendrick on the phone and give him this information. I gotta go.”
I pull up to Saintville and jump out of the car, leaving Elias behind.
Five minutes later, I’m inside my penthouse, darting to my bedroom when my phone rings. It’s Xan again.
“Go back to Dr. Joseph’s now,” he rushes out, his usually collected tone now laced with panic.
“What’s going on?” I ask, turning on my heels to head back to the underground garage. “What happened?”
