At three o’clock in the afternoon, Eldora summons us downstairs to leave for the church.

Evander and the boys will be meeting us there.

When we step outside, there’s a black Cadillac stretch SUV waiting for us. The car is massive and a little much for just us five. Surrounding the limo, there’s a fleet of armored SUVs and armed men.

I shake my head in disbelief. Does Evan do anything normalever?

When the back door of the limo opens, Gianis steps out.

He stills, his lips forming a mute ‘O’ as he stares at me unblinking from head to toe.

“Angelica,” he says in a choked voice. “You look…” He stammers on the words. Running his hands over his face, he continues after a large exhale. “You look stunning.”

Tears threaten to spill from my eyes. I look up to the sky, praying that the drops stay at bay, and I find myself also begging for my heart not to break. After everything Gianis and I have been through, this will be the hardest day for us. “Thanks, G. I’m so happy you’re here.”

Aria stands behind me and hands me a tissue. I feel so damn selfish.

Gianis grabs onto my hands and squeezes them, nodding instead of uttering the unspoken words between us.

When I look into his eyes, they’re almost desperate.I love you, Angelica, they say to me.

I love you, Gianis,I reply.

We’ve always had a way of communicating without even having to speak.

One day, I hope he finds a woman who will love him back the way he deserves.

We all hop into the cars and make our way to the ceremony. As soon as we drive off, I receive a text from Evan.

Evander: See you soon, wife.

Me: This is too much.

Evander: Anything to keep you safe. Even the limo is armored.

My brows shoot up in surprise.

Me: Are you serious? You’re crazy.

Evander: Dead serious…and you’ve seen nothing yet.

This man. He’s been working toward this day even before we planned it. He never ceases to amaze me, but I’ll still hold my ground…just for a little while longer.

Me: You’re delusional.

Evander: Am I? You’re the one who agreed to marry me. Who’s the delusional one now, kitten?

The stairs leading up to the church are adorned with a white carpet, a medley of white flowers on each side. It’s exquisite yet simple.

My friends head inside first to take their places, and Gianis helps me out of the car, extending his arm to me. “Are you ready?”

Do I want to get married to Evander? Yes.

Am I ready to spend the rest of my life with him? Also yes.

Am I prepared to be the face of the Kouvalakis family and become the one thing I tried so hard not to be: a mob queen? Not really.

But it has to be done. This not only saves the integrity of my family, but it will also save hundreds of mistreated women and children.
