“Dion is on his way up.”

Aria stiffens. “What?”

“Evan…” Angelica warns.

“Don’t worry. He won’t stay long. We have business to talk about. It was just easier for him to meet me here,” I lie, trying to calm Aria before she detonates, but we all know that the only reason Dion is here is to see her.

Silence descends between us as the seconds go by.

The elevator door finally opens and as soon as Dion steps out, his gaze trails over the room until he spots Aria. For a moment, it seems like she stops breathing when their eyes lock. Hers with dread, his with deep sadness.

Even the strongest of explosions couldn’t make them look away.

Angelica and I glance at each other, and I know it’s time for us to leave the girls alone. I place a hand on Dion’s shoulder. “Come on, D. Let’s go to my office, yeah?”

He looks away from Aria, deflated, and follows me to the other end of the penthouse.

“Phew,” I blow as we walk into the room. “That tension was fucking palpable. Care to tell me what’s going on?”

Dion lowers himself onto one of the loveseats, slumping forward, and rubs his temples.

“I don’t know what to fucking do anymore, E. I’ve lost her. I neverhadher in the first place, but it still feels like I’ve lost everything,” he says, his tone filled with agony.

I felt the exact same way when Angelica left me.

“You can’t keep doing this to yourself, man. You either go for it or you let it go.”

“Don’t you think I’ve tried to let her go?” Dion snaps, and I’m startled by the outburst.Damn. Aria’s really made an impression on him. I’ve never seen him act this way because of a woman.

“She won’t let me,” Dion continues, wringing his hands. “Every time I think I’ve gotten over her, she’s brought up in conversation, I run into her somewhere, or she’s at my fuckingbrother’s house,” he complains, glaring at me for the last one.

“Hey, I didn’t force you here,” I argue with my hands up in the air. “You did this to yourself.”

He runs a palm down his face. “Fuck. I’m sorry. I feel lovesick.”

I sit on the chair across from Dion and scoot it closer.

Elbows on my knees, I lower my head so that our foreheads are touching and grab the back of his neck.

“You’re my brother, Dion. I’ll go to war for you, even if it’s for some chick who has stripped you of your masculinity.”

Dion punches me in the gut, and I grunt, letting out a chuckle at the same time.

“Look who’s talking, jerkoff,” he retorts. I can’t argue with that.

“Say the word and we’ll get your girl,” I tell him, now serious. Dion nods. “Either way, we might have to kill her father, so her arranged marriage might be null and void,” I add.

Dion’s head perks up. “I’d like nothing more than to shove an explosive up Philip Kastellanos’s ass.”

I laugh. “You’ll hopefully get your chance. Any new developments?”

“When we left, all hell broke loose. They figured out we had raided the offices. I had some of our men stay on the grounds to keep an eye on the security cameras, but they didn’t notice anyone of importance leaving the establishment. They’re smart enough not to hide there now.”

I had already expected the whole operation had been moved out of the Sisterhood, but I had to cover all the bases.

“What about the surrounding area?”

“Nothing.”
