Skatá.This is proving a lot more complicated than I thought. Peter is sending me on a wild goose chase to find his people.
“I’ll talk to Xander. We need to start thinking outside the box. They might not have a physical meeting place at all,” I say. “In the meantime, we have to overthrow the establishment. Round up the troops and send them in. Take all the sisters andgirls to the new warehouse. Empty all the files, then blow that motherfucker up. I want it erased off this Earth, Dion. I’m not delaying anymore.”
Fuck waiting to get all the pieces to the puzzle before taking over.
“On it,” Dion replies.
We have a couple drinks while discussing the plan and how we’re going to safely extricate the girls. When it’s time for Dion to leave, I make sure that Aria is already gone, avoiding another awkward situation.
Alone again, I find Angelica in the kitchen. She’s perched on a stool eating a bowl of cereal.
“I don’t remember having cereal in my pantry,” I say, and she startles, not having heard me come in.
“Yeah, I asked Helen to get my favorites,” she replies nonchalantly.
I grab the box of cinnamon Chex. “How can you eat this stuff?”
“How could you not?” she argues, indignantly. “Your kitchen is so boring. It’s full of protein and veggies.”
“I don’t hear you complaining when Helen makes us dinner.”
“That’s because she sneaks in extra groceries,” Angelica mutters, immediately covering her mouth. “Oh my god! Don’t tell her I told you that. It was supposed to be our secret.”
I laugh, loud and deep. “I already knew that, angel. Did you think I wouldn’t notice the potatoes and pasta she sneaks into my meals? I’m not blind, and my tastebuds are definitely not broken.”
Angelica lets out her distinctive, infectious giggle that I could recognize in a crowded room, and it sends a ripple of emotion through me.I love making her laugh.
“Did you have fun with Aria?”
“It was so good to see her. Thank you for bringing her here. I needed that.”
“Anything for you, moró mou,” I say—and I mean it. “I’m glad she was able to get your mind off things, even if just for a little while. How is she doing?”
“Terrible. How’s Dion?”
“Awful,” I reply, and we both burst into a fit of laughter.

ANGELICA
“The truth will set you free. But not until
it is finished with you.”
—David Foster Wallace
The next morning, I wake up with Evan’s heavy arm splayed across my chest.
Still half asleep, I interlace my fingers with his and snuggle up to his body.Waking up like this every day might not be so bad.
Evan lets out a contented sigh, his breathing more relaxed and slowed, and he squeezes me against him.
His growing erection presses at my back, and I stifle a gasp, becoming more conscious. What the hell are you doing, Angelica? Cuddling up to Evander like a baby monkey.
“What’s wrong?” Evan asks me, his voice groggy.
I turn around to face him, and he hugs me to his chest.
