"Fine, whatever. But if I pick up flesh-eating bacteria, it's on all of you," Nev says, plainly.
I hold out the arm that's free. "Got two arms, Nevvie, if you need some protection."
She gives me a hard look. "I'll take my chances with the zombies."
We reach the entrance and discover it's being manned by one of my Basset enemies. Kyle Gregory plays varsity football for Bassett, and we've met up more than once on the field where it seemed without a ref we would have destroyed each other just out of pure hatred. Kyle spots me and immediately mutters something into his two-way radio.
"What's up, Gregory, trying to warn everyone that we're here?" I ask. Emily is clutching my arm tightly, but she sticks her tits out a little farther for Kyle's viewing. He takes a second to admire them. I'm ready to hand her right fucking off to him.
"Just telling them to give y'all the deluxe experience." Kyle's grin is the type I'd like to wipe away with my fist. "Now, are you all over sixteen?" he laughs. "No heart conditions or pregnant women?" He looks at Indi pointedly.
"What the hell are you looking at, Gregory?" she says back. "Just let us in. You're ruining the whole damn experience."
Kyle is still wearing that ugly grin as he steps aside and waves us through.
It's the usual. A dark, maze-like hallway with people jumping out at you from each corner, and sticky webs hanging from the ceiling just low enough to grab hold of your hair and clothes. There are a few dim lights to show us the way. Emily's nails are starting to get dangerously close to my skin.
"Hey, Em, lighten up, would ya? Remember those cat claws."
She ignores me and sidles closer so that her amazing tits are rubbing my arm. Normally, I'm all for that, but the claws are starting to dig, which kills the positive side of having tits against me.
Suddenly, it gets darker. I can hear Jameson up ahead. Kinsley glued herself to his side at the sight of the first zombie.
"Hey, seems like the lights went out. Can't see a fucking thing." I glance around and I'm sure the petite silhouette behind me is Nev. She's the only girl not attached to one of us.
We get deeper in the maze. People are screaming up ahead, but it's hard to tell if it's visitors or the actors. One room has a strobe light that's especially obnoxious after coming from the pitch-black hallway. The light flashes over a fake cadaver on a table, and there's a mad doctor leaning over it.
"Is that a real dead person?" Emily asks.
"Yes, they murdered someone, so it'd be more realistic," I answer dryly.
A loud bang startles all of us, and the strobe goes out. We're back in the dark. Something rubbery falls from the ceiling, Emily screams, and her nails dig into my skin.
The rubbery prop smacks me in the face. I punch it hard, and it flies off its string and lands somewhere with a plod.
In the darkness, low voices start chanting the Bassett team victory chant.
"Great experience, assholes," Zach says into the darkness. "Fuck, who threw that?"
Chaos follows us into the next chamber. Zach is throwing punches, and I can hear Indi telling him to stop.
"Get me out of here," Emily cries as she digs her nails deeper into my flesh.
The building waddles back and forth, and out of nowhere, someone throws a rubber hand at me hard enough to hurt. "What the fuck?" There's more chaos, and as much as I love a good fight, we're at a disadvantage. Something we're not used to. The people working in the haunted house know their way around, but we're having to flail around in the dark.
"Get to the fucking exit!" I yell ahead. "Just plow them down."
I reach back hoping that Nev is close by, but I've lost track of her. "Nev, just follow me," I call into the darkness. Groans and yells and loud noises follow us as we barrel through the rest of the maze. I swing my arm in front of me to knock away any flying objects. I can feel blood trickling down my arm where Emily is grinding her nails into my forearm. I drag her through, pushing any obstacle out of my way. Lights outside and cool air direct us to the exit. We stumble out into the night air.
Jameson is sporting a cut on his cheek, and Zach looks furious. The girls are shaken, and Indi is consoling a crying Kinsley.
Gregory comes around the building looking worried and pale. "Sorry, the generator blew. I swear it wasn't an ambush."
I peel Emily off my arm and hand her over to Indi and Kinsley. Jameson and I walk toward Kyle. He looks ready to shit his pants. He holds up his hands. "I swear. They started that on their own. I didn't tell them anything. I just said the Rockhurst boys, including the Wildes, were coming through and to give them a good scare. I swear, Zander, that's all I said. We didn't know the generator was going to go out." He's talking fast and confessing like a guy who's holding a bloody knife over a dead body.
I hold up my hand. "Shut up, Gregory." I look around frantically. "Where's Nev?"
Kinsley wipes away tears and looks around, too. "Oh my god, where is she?" she starts to cry again.
