“Aubrey,” Tate chides, as if the question is rude. Has she met Lennon?
“Nonsense, Tate.” I sit down next to Aubrey, loosening the laces on my skates. “Aubrey, would you like it to be time for your mom to cook Mimi’s meatloaf now?”
She rubs her belly. “I like Mimi’s meatloaf. And Mommy won’t mess it up.”
I tip her chin up. “She certainly won’t.” Over Aubrey’s head, I wink at Tate, easing the worry creeping in. “The better question is, what should we bake for dessert?”
Aubrey’s finger taps her chin, concentrating profoundly. I will my kid to stay quiet and let her friend have this one. “Donuts. Definitely donuts. Do we need to stop at the store for ‘gredients?”
“We can grab them from home, kiddo,” Tate entices.
“I’ll go with Lennon and Walsh to Mimi’s house.” Like before, her voice never wavers, assertive in her decision.
“You can sit in the new seat Keeley put in his truck for you,” Lennon enthuses.
“When did you?—”
I cut Tate off with a kiss on the corner of her lips. “We’ll talk about it later. You go to your house and grab the ingredients. I’ll take the girls to my place.”
The girls.
Has a nice ring to it.
So far, I’ve got three. And counting…
Once we’re packed up and ready to leave, with a girl’s hand tucked into each of mine, we leave one of my favorite places.
This may not have been the life I’d planned for myself, but this one’s turning out even better.

She’s the coach’s daughter. He thinks rules don’t apply to him. To say It’s Pucking Complicatedwould be an understatement.
