The confusing part is that I don’t just want her in my bed, legs wrapped around me as I hammer my cock into a pussy I’ve licked top to bottom. I want more. I find that I like it when she glares at me or makes a snarky comment. Something inside me fires up when those eyes turn defiant and that sexy mouth sets in a firm line before smoothing into a smile she tries so hard to hide.

I’ve never had these kinds of thoughts about a woman before, and I can’t tell if it’s something that’s here to stay or just a fleeting moment. The only way to find out is by keeping her in Chicago, and today I intend to give her more reasons to stay.

A door down the hall opens, and I catch the soft patter of bare feet on the floor until I’m greeted with the sight of Ransom, hair mussed up as well and eyes groggy with sleep. “It’s six, Knox,” he says, smoothing his hair back from his face. “What on earth are you doing here this fucking early?”

“Ruth and I have a date.”

“It’s not a date,” Ruth cuts in, biting into a bagel she’s grabbed from the bag I brought in. “We’re just…two people, a man and a woman, strolling across town as one tries to convince the other that this city isn’t a complete waste of space on earth.” She grabs her coffee and heads own the hall. “Now, you’ll excuse me so I can get ready for this…tour.”

“Ouch,” Ransom says once she’s gone. “What did the city ever do to her?”

I shrug. “Doesn’t matter. By the time I’m done, she’ll want to move back here.”

There’s an apprehensive look on his face, but he doesn’t voice his doubts. He joins me at the table and grabs a bagel as we talk about club business, but it all turns to static when Ruth finally reappears twenty minutes later.

She looks…different. Long gone is the cranky woman in a robe and mussed up hair, and in her place is a woman who looks like she stepped out of an old Hollywood movie. Her long bob is pulled back into a neat ponytail, not a strand out of place, with her bangs perfectly styled. She’s wearing a crisp white button-down shirt, tucked into a simple, form-fitting pair of jeans. She’s added a delicate necklace as the only accessory, and I find myself completely charmed.

Seemingly oblivious to her own appeal, Ruth walks to the door and opens it. “Let’s go and get this day over with.”

Yes, I am completely and helplessly drawn to her.

“Good luck,” Ransom says with a pat on the shoulder, but he’s mistaken if he thinks I need luck to unravel Miss Prim and Proper.

Oh, it will be quite a joy to explore her, to see her loosen up a bit, and those eyes…I can’t wait to see how they react when I finally touch her. When I muss up that hair with my fingers and undo her buttons to expose those gorgeous tits pushing upagainst her shirt. I can’t wait to uncover what she’s hiding under those clothes. Can’t wait until she has nothing on her but me.

I catch up with Ruth by the elevators, allowing myself the small pleasure of running my eyes over her. I step in behind her when the door opens and lean against the wall, not once tearing my eyes off her. “For someone who claims that this isn’t a date, you sure did put a lot of effort into your outfit.”

“Is that your roundabout way of telling me that I look nice?”

“You look stunning, little bird.” I smirk when she whips her head back and glares at me, but I don’t miss the flush on her cheeks. “You didn’t have to get all dressed up for me.”

“Don’t flatter yourself,” she says just as the elevator doors open and she steps out. “Are you going to tell me where we’re going, or is it a surprise?”

“We’ll start with the Bean,” I say, laying a hand on her lower back, and whatever she was going to say fades at the touch. She tenses slightly but doesn’t shift away, letting me guide her quietly to my bike. I grab the helmet I saved for her and slip it over her head before adjusting the straps. “Our itinerary for the day is packed, so I thought we’d start with the Bean when it’s not too crowded.”

“And you think that will convince me to like the city?”

“I guess we’ll have to wait and see,” I say, brushing her hand over her cheek once I have the helmet secured, enjoying the way her cheeks flush at my touch. “Let’s go.”

The sky is a brilliant blue and I can’t help but marvel at the way the morning light hits the skyscrapers. I find myself wondering if Ruth can see the same thing, if she likes the way light dances over the buildings and the way they reflect the clouds, making heaven feel closer to the ground. If she finds it mesmerizing, she doesn’t say a word, not even when I find a spot to parkthe bike [KB19]and we get off.

She’s uncharacteristically silent and doesn’t react when I take her hand in mine and we start walking. As we get closer, the Bean comes into view. The smooth reflective surface is like a giant mirror, distorting the city around us. The buildings are warped, the sky twisted, and everything is moving. It’s mesmerizing, but when I turn to look at Ruth, I’m met by a blank expression.

“I’ve seen it in pictures before,” she says, staring up at the massive structure as we walk around it. I see the reflection of the city in her eyes, and she looks so…small. Almost vulnerable in this huge space.

“It’s pretty cool to see it in person, huh?”

“I…I don’t know,” she says, her voice quiet. “It’s…a lot. Bigger than I expected.”

My hand tightens on hers. I just have a feeling that she needs it.

“Not many people remember what was here before Cloud Gate,” I say, staring up at our reflection. What an odd couple we make. The bartender dressed in black jeans and a jacket with the club’s patch, and a woman who has no business hanging out with the likes of me. But somehow, we fit. “Before the Bean, there was a railroad track and a parking lot. Not a particularly appealing or safe place to be.”

“Are you saying you were here before it was constructed?” She turns away from the gleaming surface of the bean to look up at me. “Jeez, how old are you?”

“Old enough to watch it come up,” I say, flashing her a grin. “My point is, I witnessed something beautiful come from the ugly.”

She shakes her head and looks away, but I feel her ease up. We walk around the Bean in silence, lost in our own thoughts, until people start trickling in and I figure it’s time to move on to the next stop on our date.
