She pulled me back into her arms once again. “I’m glad you’ve found your way back to each other. There isn’t anyone I’d trust more with his heart.”

“Even after what happened?”

“Especially after what happened.” She pulled back, offering me a smile. “What time does your flight leave?” I looked at my watch and winced. “I actually need to get going. My plane boards in about ninety minutes.”

“Why don’t I drop you off so you don’t have to worry about parking?”

“That would be great, thank you.”

We loaded my luggage and Goldie into Olivia’s car, making pleasant conversation during the fifteen-minute drive.

“Thank you,” I said as we pulled up to the curb. “I mean, thank you for the ride, but also for…I don’t know…being so kind to me after everything.”

“You don’t need to thank me for any of that. I already told you I was never angry. All I ask is that you both take care of each other.”

“I can do that.”

The ceremony had been beautiful.Because I was an usher on Ally’s side of the aisle, I’d ended up seating quite a few of my former coworkers, which hadn’t been as unpleasant as I’d anticipated. Dmitri and Sebastian had skirted around me and seated themselves, which was fine with me.

Following the ceremony, the brides headed down to the Wrigley Building for pictures while the rest of the guests were invited to partake in the cocktail hour at the hotel where the reception was being held. Since the brides had opted to only include the main wedding party in the pictures before the ceremony, ushers were free to head to cocktail hour with the rest of the guests.

I was just taking my first sip of bourbon on the rocks when movement to my left caught my attention. My eyes widened as I turned and Sammy came into view dressed in an immaculate black suit that fit his slender frame like a glove. He wore his hair loose, the dirty blond waves brushing his shoulders as he walked. A slow smile spread across my face as he approached, warmth settling in my chest at the sight of him.

“Hey there, golden boy.”

“What are you doing here?”

“You said you wished I was here, so I came.”

“Just like that?” I asked, breathless.

He nodded. “Just like that.” He took my cheek in his hand, leaned in, and pressed his lips to mine. “I’ll always come for you,” he said when he pulled back.

I took his hand in mine. “I can’t believe you’re really here. Who has Goldie?”

“Your mom picked her up and took me to the airport.”

I made a mental note to add something special to her Mother’s Day gift. “You look amazing. I didn’t even know you owned a suit.”

He smoothed a hand down his front. “I have a couple. I usually only wear them for gallery showings. Came in handy today though.”

I leaned in so only he could hear my words. “I can’t wait to rip it off you later.”

“Mmm. I like the sound of that. We could go upstairs for a quickie…”

I grinned at him, enjoying the lascivious glint in his eye. “The brides are due back here any moment. But I’m all for an early exit later.”

There was a commotion near the door, and the newlyweds came down the stairs into the bar area, positively radiating happiness. Someone handed them each a shot, which they took together before slamming the glasses onto the bar. “Let’s get this party started,” Ally said, holding her bouquet straight up in the air while her wife looked at her like she was her queen.

“Let’s go find our seats.”

Dinner was the typical wedding reception fare with a beef or chicken option, served with potatoes and green beans. We made small talk with the other guests at our table and took advantage of the open bar.

I still couldn’t believe he was here, that he’d dropped everything and come for me simply because I’d told him I’d made a mistake in not inviting him. In fact, since we’d reconnected, he’d shown time and time again that he was there for me without hesitation.
