I chewed on a frayed cuticle. “I don’t know. Sounds complicated, and after this week, I think we both could use something that isn’t a big production.”

She snapped her fingers. “I’ve got it! He works in IT, so you could create a program and hack into the computer system. Maybe create some avatars of you two and have them kiss.”

Was she serious? “First of all, I’d have no idea where to even begin with something like that, and second of all, I’d prefer not to land in jail, thank you very much.”

She waved away my concern. “My uncle is the police chief. I could give him a call for you.”

“Let’s just keep legal, okay? I think I’ve already tilted the lunacy meter as far as it will go. In the wrong direction.”

“Fine.” She went back to perusing her folder. “What about little love notes strategically left in places you know he frequents?”

“Umm…doesn’t that sound a little too stalkerish to you?”

Her lips pressed into a thin line as she glowered at me. “Then this one and this one won’t work either.” She flipped a few more pages. “Candlelight picnic? You could have it in Carol’s living room. Have her call him and ask him to come over to fix her computer again. You could be standing there with a single red rose. Surprise!” She waved her hands over her head.

I mimicked her actions. Although, maybe mocked was more correct. “Ambush!”

Harper sighed, closed the folder, and plunked her chin into the palm of her hand. “You’re no fun.”

“And you’re slightly nuts.”

“Kettle or pot?”

“Hardy har har.”

“Seriously though. What are you going to do? Walk up to him, bat your eyelashes and say, ‘Please sir, I want some more…of you’?”

I threw a couch pillow at her head. “I will never again wonder why you are single.”

Harper giggled as she caught the pillow and hugged it to her middle. “I’m only teasing. In all honesty, I think you have it right. Find him. Have a heart-to-heart.” Her gaze drifted toward the window. “It takes a lot of courage to be that vulnerable with another person.” She blinked, and whatever—or whoever—she’d been thinking of vanished. “You’re a good person, Ashleigh. You deserve every happiness. Now.” She rubbed her hands together. “Go get your show on the road.”
