“There are no rules. I wrote them.” A shy smile tugs at his lips. “I don’t know though. It could complicate things.”
“Yeah, of course. Offer’s there if you want it. If not, I won’t be offended if you find someone you’re into.” Jealous maybe, but not offended.
Instead of responding, he nibbles on a fry. We eat quietly, and I can tell he’s thinking about everything, but I have no clue if he’s interested.
After a few bites of his burger, he flashes me a big smile. “This is tasty. It’s been so long since I’ve enjoyed mortal food, and never anything like this.”
“Glad you like it.”
We finish eating and I pay with some of the money Farnsworth gave me last night. Or whenever the hell that was. It could’ve been a week ago for all I know. It feels like time isn’t real anymore. I should hit the ATM now that I have actual funds.
Farnsworth is quiet on our way back to the apartment, still people-watching, and I’m dying to know what’s on his mind, but I’m not a creep. He’ll tell me when and if he wants to.
Inside the apartment, I kick off my shoes and hang my jacket on the coat tree. Farnsworth lingers behind me, doing the same.
“Should we do more research?” I ask on my way to the couch.
Farnsworth walks over too, pausing in front of me. I can’t tell what he’s thinking from his expression, can’t even tell if he’s happy or not, but I definitely don’t expect him to lean forward and press a quick, rough kiss to my lips.
He gasps softly, clearly ready to bolt, but I grab his wrist to prevent him from getting too far. “Hey. It’s okay.”
“I…” He blinks rapidly. “Perhaps, uh…”
“Tell me what you want, Farns. Just say the words.”
“I’ve never… asserted myself. I’ve never…” He huffs. “I have no idea what I’m doing, Borja.”
“You don’t have to know. You just have to want to.” I cup his cheek. “Do you want to, gorgeous?”
“Gorgeous?” A smile tugs at his lips. “You find me appealing?”
“Hell yeah.” I step closer. “Are you attracted to me?”
He nods, just barely, but it’s there. “I don’t know if I should, but…”
I wait for him to continue since I can tell he’s working through what he wants to tell me.
“There are no opportunities for me, you see.”
“I get it. You want to experience things while you’re Above.” I lift his hand and kiss his knuckles. “I’d be honored.”
His Adam’s apple bobbles in his throat. “You want to… to hook up with me?”
Smiling, I nod. “I sure do.”
“What if I’m not very experienced? What if I don’t know?—”
I press my finger to his lips. “Hey. It’s okay, Farns. I get it. If it makes you feel better, it’s been a while for me too.” I kiss his hand again. “I don’t mind showing you the ropes.”
Farnsworth exhales slowly, holding my gaze. “Yes, please. Show me.”
Chapter 15
Farnsworth
The smile on Borja’s face causes a flutter in my chest. What an interesting sensation. My mind swirls with too many thoughts, and some part of me knows this is indeed a very bad idea, but the temptation to touch a real, live man is too strong to resist.
Forget the rules for once, Farnsworth, and have some damn fun.
