“I’m feeling much better.” Ruby flops down next to her band mate, thankful again for the shower that had removed all traces of the Alpha’s scent. Tanya may be a Beta but she seems to have a keen sense of smell. “Did I miss much after I left?”
“Yes! We went back to Rick Dexter’s mansion. You’ve never seen anything like it — it was a palace with champagne flowing from the taps and an orgy going on in the swimming pool.”
Ruby giggles, bumping her shoulder against Tanya’s. “Sounds wild.”
“Yeah, I could’ve done with my other wing woman. Nat hooked up with some dude, disappeared and left me on my own.”
“I’m sure you coped.”
“I did.” Tanya shifts the paper in Ruby’s direction. “You seen these yet?”
Ruby braces herself, ready for the headlines about the feud and Nat’s antics last night. But instead she finds herself looking at rows of pictures of different female and male celebrities from the award ceremony with comments about their outfits.
“Are we included?” Ruby asks, squinting down.
“Yeah, look, there’s a photo of the three of us together. Don’t we look fucking awesome?”
Ruby stares at it. The dress she wore last night was cut very low, showing a healthy amount of side boob. No wonder her mom hated it. But she has to agree with Tanya. The three of them look incredible — like rock stars. She reads the commentary. The journalist appears to agree. “Wow, he gave us five stars for our look!”
“And we’re all over social media this morning.”
She cringes. “What are they saying?”
“Same as the journalist — that we kick ass!” Tanya groans and when she speaks again, her voice is a whisper, “I keep hurting my own head. I need more coffee and some of those painkillers.” She tips her empty cup towards Ruby who rolls her eyes but gets up. “Natasha’s on her way over too. I spoke to her already this morning. She is seriously hyper — probably because she got laid.”
“Probably because of the award.”
“Oh yeah that too. And because she got to publicly tell Ash Canon and West Stone where to go.”
Ruby freezes as she peers into the coffee pot. Then collecting herself, she pours Tanya another cup, handing it over with a pair of pills.
“Oh, that’s Natasha,” Tanya says as the door scrapes open.
“Remind me why I gave you guys keys,” Ruby mumbles as Natasha bundles into the kitchen. Her long hair is scraped back and she wears large oval sunglasses. Her arms are full of magazines and print outs.
“Morning bitches,” she squeals and Tanya groans a second time, knocking back the pain killers. “Someone got a sore head?” Natasha asks Tanya.
“You got a sore tush after your exploits last night.”
“A lady never tells.” Natasha zips up her lips, then turns to Ruby, “And how are you feeling? You missed Rick Dexter’s mansion.”
“I’m fine now. Who was the guy you hooked up with?”
Natasha plonks the pile of papers on the counter and waves her hand through the air. “No one special, just a bit of fun.” She returns to the piles and starts to sort through.
“Uh uh,” Tanya says, “you can’t skimp on the details. Some of us happily married ladies—”
“You’re not married. And you’re definitely not a lady.”
“May as well be. I don’t get to have any fun.”
“You don’t want to have any fun. You’re crazy about Jason. You haven’t shut up about him since he left on his trip.”
“Don’t change the subject, Natasha, details!”
Natasha adjusts her shades on the bridge of her nose. “He’s an up-and-coming actor.”
“Is that what he told you?” Tanya scoffs.
