“If we go back …”
“It could happen again.”
“Would you like that?”
“Yes,” I breathe.
I pack an overnight bag while he pokes around my drawers.
“You and your sisters all look so alike,” he says, examining the picture in the frame I have by my bed. “Am I going to get to meet them?”
I crinkle up my nose. “I don’t know. If my mum finds out about you, she’ll have our wedding plans sorted in less than a week.”
Zane snorts.
“I’m serious,” I say. “I think it’s best to keep it on the low-key from my family for the time being. Honestly, I don’t need the additional hassle this will cause with my mum.”
“You just made it sound like she’d be pleased.”
“She will be, but then …”
He nods. “There’s no rush.”
We catch a taxi to his pack house.
“Want to watch another movie?” he asks me as I place my bag on his bed. I nod and he rests his forehead against mine, his alpha eyes bottomless up close. “Are you sure?”
“Yes Alpha,” I say, and then we’re walking back down the stairs, my head a little dizzy. He cooks us a big bowl of popcorn, then we snuggle up on the sofa in the TV room and he lines up another Marvel movie.
As the movie starts, I wait with anxious breath to see if any of the other alphas in the pack will join us this time. They don’t, and I relax into Zane as the movie progresses.
Perhaps last night was a one time thing after all. And now, the battle in my head can stop.
