“Were you two a thing?” I ask as the door closes.
“We’ve slept together a few times, but we never dated. Why? Do you think he’s cute?”
“Soph!”
She flops back next to me on the sofa. “You just turned downThe Crew! I can’t believe you did that. Aren’t you even a little bit curious?”
“You have no idea what alphas are like to omegas. You think they’re these big hot dudes, but they’re possessive and dangerous. I’m not interested in getting caught up with one – let alone four.”
“Sometimes I think you’re scared to have fun.”
“I have fun!”
“When was the last time you had an orgasm that involved someone else?”
Does fantasising about someone else count? Because otherwise the answer is never. I’m not a virgin, but the guys I’ve been with have never made me come.
Maybe that’s half the reason I stay away from alphas. The one and only alpha I’ve been with concluded there was something wrong with me.
Omegas are made for sex. Orgasming is meant to be as easy as breathing to us. But not for me. He couldn’t make it happen.
“I’m happier this way,” I tell her. “Honestly.” And I am. I don’t need the heartache of another alpha telling me how broken I am. I’m happy enough focusing on my studies and working hard.
Alphas are a whole heap of trouble I don’t need.
“It’s always been a fantasy of mine to be with two men at the same time,” Soph says, swirling around her drink and gazing off into the distance.
“That sounds intense. And possibly damaging.”
“Doesn’t it?” she says with a smile.
I roll my eyes at her, but when I’m back in my room later that night, I google alpha packs. I find a video of an omega writhing between the bodies of two alphas. She looks trapped, helpless, completely powerless to their will, and I know I’ve made the right decision.
Chapter 4
After my message back to the pack, I think that’ll be the end of things. After all, alphas don’t like bratty omegas or rejection.
But I couldn’t be more wrong. Two days later, Zane is there on the stairs waiting for me. Right where we collided.
“I said no,” I tell him as he smiles at me brightly, those green eyes glinting and his cheeks dimpling.
“No?” He blinks at me in confusion. I guess he assumed Harrison had the message wrong. He’s probably not used to being turned down. “Care to explain–”
“I don’t have to give a reason.”
“OK.” He nods slowly as if he’s trying to decode my words.
I snort and keep walking. “I’m not interested inhanging outwith a pack of alphas.”
His gaze flickers across my face, taking me in. “I’d like to take you on a date. Just us. If you’re not interested in meeting my pack, that’s fine.”
I stop in my tracks and look at him. I didn’t think that was how things worked in a pack. I thought relationships were interconnected. I can’t help but think he’s lying.
“No thanks.”
I start climbing the stairs again and he follows me. His scent races up the stairs and into my nostrils, making me a little lightheaded.
“Not even one date? Jeez. You’re a hard customer.”
