I try to find the door.

I reach for the knife in my pocket.

My head spins.

My legs falter.

The world goes black.

Bea

Waves crashing.Bright sunlight against my closed eyelids.

Where am I?

My skin is hot.

My body stiff.

I wiggle my toes.

I feel soft cushions beneath me.

What happened?

Something bad. I know something bad happened. There’s a panicked sensation bubbling in my chest.

Remember, Bea, remember.

“Are you awake?”

A voice. Familiar. I know it from somewhere.

Feminine.

“Would you like some water?”

I force open my eyes. Sunshine floods my view, golden and piercing, reflecting off a glistening surface.

I squint, lifting my heavy arm to shield my eyes.

The ocean.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”

I turn my head towards the voice.

A woman lies out on a sun-lounger beside me. Behind her, stretches endless white sand, palms trees and colorful cactuses.

I squint harder, her face slowly coming into view.

She’s wearing skin-tight denim shorts and a skimpy bikini top, her long hair is plaited loosely over one shoulder, and her lips painted a blood red to match her nails.

Oversized sunglasses cover most of her face but as I stare at her, she lifts her hand and snatches them off her face, resting them down on her tanned thigh.

My head thumps.
