“Could be,” I say, “although it seems out of their usual realm of operation. I’m going to do more digging.”
“Me too,” Connor says.
I nod. “We should keep each other updated.” Angel peers at me. I straighten my tie. “There’s more.”
“Go on,” Axel says.
“Bea’s finished her heat.”
There’s a collective intake of breath. Then Axel draws back his chair. “Then I’m going to see her.”
“You think you should?” Connor asks.
“Hell, yes. I need to talk to her.”
Angel stands too. “If you’re going to see her, I’m coming too.”
“You’re not.”
“Are you going to stop me?”
Hardy shakes his head and Nate snorts.
“She’s pissed with us for the shit we pulled,” Hardy says, “you think the two of you rocking up and demanding to see her, shoving each other out the way to get to her first, is going to help?”
“She’s not going to be pissed with us anymore,” Axel says, swinging his jacket off the back of his chair and sliding his arms inside. “We rescued her.”
“Yeah, and she was still pissed when we did that,” Nate mumbles.
“Heat hormones,” Axel says with a wave of of his hand. “Now she’s back in her own mind, she’s going to be grateful. We risked our lives for her. Girls love that shit.”
I shake my head, “It’s not that simple, man,” I say to the head of my pack.
But Angel seems to be listening to his big brother’s bullshit and not the rest of us.
“What exactly are you hoping will happen,” Connor says, “if you rock up outside her door?”
“I’m going to reaffirm our position,” Axel states, “tell her how we feel about her, that we are serious about wanting her for our pack.”
“Same,” Angel says, “same.”
“She won’t like that,” Hardy mumbles.
“It’s clear the girl was falling for our pack,” Axel says.
“She was falling for ours,” Angel contradicts.
“Well, she can’t have the both of us,” Axel scowls at his brother, “it’s about time she made her choice.”
Angel nods and then before we can stop them, they’re striding from the room.
Nate thumps the table in irritation and Hardy shakes his head.
“I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” Connor mumbles.
“Yeah,” I say, “so do I.”
