“I haven’t opened it yet.”

“Why not?”

She nibbles on her lip. “Nervous.”

“You want me to open it for you?”

She takes a steadying inhale, bracing her shoulders. “Nope. I’m going to do it. Here goes…” She screws up her eyes and presses down hard with her thumb.

“Are you going to look at the message?”

She peeks open one eye. “Yes?” She glances down at the phone quickly. Then looks again, this time opening both eyes and reading the entire thing, as she does her face lights up and it makes me want to kiss her so badly.

“I got it!” she says in wonderment. Shaking her phone and looking up at me. “I got the interview!”

“Of course you did, sweetheart. You’re perfect for it and I bet Mrs. Finch gave you a glowing reference. She keeps saying you’re the best worker we’ve had.”

Bea grins at me. “I can’t believe it. I can’t believe I have an interview for a job I actually want to do. I can’t believe things are working out this way and–” She frowns.

“What?”

“My frigging hormones,” she mutters.

“What about them?”

“You saw what happened yesterday. They’re all over the place. How am I meant to give a half-decent interview when any minute I might be calling you up on the phone and begging for a knot?”

That idea has my cock jerking in my boxers, but I swallow back the rampant desire, and focus on her concerns.

“I may have a solution for you. I’m going to take you to the doctor and get you sorted.”

Her face pales before my eyes. “I’m not sure I want to do that.”

“He’s our family doctor. He’s been our family doctor since before I was born. In fact, I’m pretty sure he delivered me, Angel and Molly. We trust him and besides I’m going with you and we’ll take Silver with us. Maybe Nate too.”

She nibbles on her lip again but something about my confidence seems to reassure her and finally she nods her consent.

“Then come on,” I say, “let’s get dressed, eat some pancakes and go see the doctor.”

“Don’t we need to make an appointment?”

I sniff. “You’re Pack Stormgate now, Bea. You’ll never have to make another appointment in your life.”

“I’m not pack yet, remember?”

“We’ll see,” I say with a cocky smirk, pulling her in for a deep kiss that leaves her shivering.

Dr. Clive’soffice out in the city suburbs is a lot less intimidating than the clinic at the hospital. I can tell he’s a family doctor by the cartoon characters he has pinned to the walls and the large collection of kids’ toys stacked in the waiting room corner. Still, I’m glad Axel and Silver are with me for this, and I don’t complain when both hold my hands, while we wait for the doctor.

“No need to be nervous,” Axel reassures me, “Dr. Clive is a big softie.”

When he opens the door to his office and calls us inside, I see ‘big Softie’ is exactly the right description. He’s tall and squidgy with a big mop of hair on his head and some sprouting from his ears.

He greets Axel with a genuine smile and shakes his hand, telling him how pleased he is to hear that he’s mended the rift with his brother.
