It’s made both me and Connor very determined. We’ve worked day and night to track down the Snakebite’s investor. Neither of us were surprised when we discovered who it was.

I turn to Connor, sitting inconspicuously behind us, and nod. He swivels his chair and joins us at the table, removing the baseball cap he was wearing low over his face, and slamming a file down in front of Don.

“We have evidence. Evidence that links the two of you.” Connor glances to Bea. “Evidence that shows you were aware of the plan to abduct our omega.”

“Not just aware,” I say, “you fucking well approved it, you piece of shit.”

“You’re lucky,” Connor says quietly, “Nate hasn’t found his way to you yet.”

Don’s eyes examine me and then Connor.

“What do you want?”

“Who says we want anything?” Connor says.

“If you didn’t, you’d already have handed in your so-called evidence to the cops, and I’d be under arrest.”

“Oh, you will be,” Bea says, jerking her chin towards the entrance of the restaurant where a police detective flanked by several officers comes striding through, walking in our direction.

Don leaps to his feet, his chair toppling to the ground behind him. He swings his gaze desperately around the restaurant, then makes a sprint in the direction of the kitchen.

He doesn’t make it two strides before Hardy and Nate, hiding at a table at the back of the restaurant, leap into his path and block his escape.

“Hi Don,” Nate says cheerfully, spinning a butter knife in his hand.

Don gulps and obviously decides he’d be better off taking his chances with the cops. He backs away, hands in the air.

“I’m happy to come with you officers and help you with your investigation,” he says loudly so all the restaurant can hear. “I’m sure I will be able to provide invaluable info–”

The officer nearest him doesn’t wait for him to say more, he jerks Don’s arms behind his back and cuffs him.

“Don Cleaver, you’re under arrest.”

Melody stumbles to her feet. “What? No? You can’t do this? Do you know who we are?” she screeches, then noticing the many pairs of eyes on her, pats down her hair and perfects a concerned-wife look.

As the cops lead her husband from the restaurant, she spins around to retrieve her purse from the table.

“You will pay for this,” she hisses at us.

“So lovely to see you,Melanie,” Bea says with sarcasm, waving her fingers at her. “Such a shame we won’t get to see each other so much from now on.” Melody scowls at our omega like she’s talking gobbledygook. “Oh,” Bea says, blinking, “you’ll be moving over to Hanobury, won’t you? To be closer to the county jail and your pack.”

Melody screeches, stamping her foot on the floor, then hurries after her alpha, holding her purse up to her face as people take photos on their phones.

Yeah, now she really doesn’t want to be noticed.

We watch from the table as they’re both ushered into police cars, and a feeling of satisfaction and relief radiates through my gut. I’m going to sleep a hell of a lot easier knowing that man and his pack are locked behind bars. I’d sleep even easier if Micko Sondrio’s packmates – the two alphas and that omega – were there too. Unfortunately, while the cops did a good job of rounding up most of the Snakebite gang and smashing apart their criminal empire, those three got away. They’ve fled the city. With warrants out for their arrest and a sizable reward for their capture (courtesy of our pack), I’m guessing they’ve fled the country too. Most likely to Mexico. And though I don’t think they’ll ever return, we’ll be keeping a very close watch just in case.

I wrap my arm around Bea’s shoulders. I’ve made a vow to protect this woman and I intend to keep it.

Nate, Hardy, Axel and Angel join us at the table.

Axel still has his arm in a sling, but I think it’s to encourage the omega to fuss over him, rather than needing the damn thing.

He’s healed remarkably quickly. Something Hardy is convinced is to do with the presence of our fated mate.

I used to think all that guff was bullshit.

These days I’m finding I pay more and more attention to Hardy’s fairytales.
