“We don’t kill anyone unless we have to.”

Nate snarls in his face. “They took the fucking omega.”

“And our number one priority is getting her back. Revenge and retribution can come later.”

The muscle under Nate’s eye twitches.

Angel rests his hand on Nate’s back. “The omega. That’s all we focus on.”

Tension swims in the room. Angel and Axel together were always a calming influence on Nate. Does that old magic still work?

Nate nods stiffly. “All right, but if anyone lays one finger on the omega–”

“You have our permission to snap those fingers off and hang them around your neck,” Angel says.

Nate snorts a laugh and just like that the tension clears.

It only lasts a moment though, in the van the tension thickens again like we’re swimming in soup. Our scents are thick in the air and I swear I hear every heart thumping in this dark vehicle, the sun sunk below the horizon and the city wrapped in night.

“What do we know about the location?” Axel asks, from the driving seat.

“Not a lot. Seems to be a converted warehouse on the outskirts of the city. A lot of the space out there is unused or shut down. It would be easy to smuggle someone inside without anyone noticing.”

“But that means we don’t know what we’re going to find inside,” Hardy says.

“Isn’t there CCTV footage of the place? Can’t we see who’s been coming and going?” Angel asks.

I shake my head.

“Nope, the footage gets wiped daily. If we hadn’t tracked the car down there today, we wouldn’t have tracked it at all.”

“Sounds dodgy,” Nate says, playing with his gun in a way that makes me freaking uncomfortable.

“Put the safety back on,” I snap at him.

He looks up at me with a grin and then slowly and deliberately snaps it across.

“I don’t like going in blind,” Axel says, “we don’t know what we might find.”

“Which is why we’re going to do this the proper way.” I’d wanted to bring my security men along with us, but Pack York weren’t having any of that. Seems they’re happy to work with us to bring the omega home, but don’t trust us enough not to snatch her away. I eye Nate and then Hardy. “Stick to the plan.”

I run through it a third time. We’re taking these fuckers by surprise. Stealth is the operative word. We don’t want the omega to get hurt in any crossfire, which means we find her and get the hell out.

“What if she won’t come with us?” Connor asks.

Axel mumbles under his breath. But it’s a good point. One I was musing myself.

Being rescued is one thing. Being rescued by a bunch of dudes you detest another.

No one has any answers to that problem, though.

“Let’s hope she will,” I say. Crossing all my fingers and all my toes.

Axel circuits past the warehouse with his lights out and we take a look at the place. It’s dark and I hope to god we’re not too late and they’ve moved her on already.

He parks up a back alley and we pull our balaclavas over our heads and jog in single file back towards the building, hugging the shadows as best six large men can. There’s no security patrolling outside. But I point out the cameras and we’re careful to avoid their view.

The door has some electronic code system but I hold our hazing gadget to the touchpad and within a few minutes the thing has fizzled dead, an alarm along with it.
