“Mrs. Stormgate, looking radiant as ever.”
She rolls her eyes at me and I flop down on the bed beside her and take her hand in mine.
“Cookies were good,” I tell her.
“Molly made them,” she says, “I gave her my secret recipe.”
“Going to give it to me?”
She smiles.
“I made a fucking cake the other day.” I scratch at some dry sand stuck to the leg of my pants. “Made it for the omega.”
“She certainly seems to–”
“She’s leaving,” I say.
“Leaving?” Mrs. Stormgate repeats. “What do you mean?”
“Going back to her hometown.”
“That doesn’t sound very sensible.”
I shrug. “Hurt people don’t do sensible things.”
Mrs. Stormgate squeezes my hand. “Axel and Angel are working on fixing things.”
“You think they can?”
“I think you know them better than me these days, Nate.”
I sigh.
“How are the peace talks going?” she asks.
“Well, I’m up here aren’t I.”
Mrs. Stormgate places her other hand on top of our hands. “I know my boys can be stubborn, and, well, rather idiotic sometimes. But they have good hearts underneath it all.” She pats my hand. “Give them a chance.”
I glance towards the window. “I can’t go through it a second time.”
“You’re all older now. And something tells me you others wouldn’t put up with their shenanigans this time around.”
I nod.
That’s true.
Ten years ago, I was in awe of Axel. I thought the sun shone out of his ass. And while I still love the big guy, now I know everyone has their faults.
“It would make a dying woman very happy to see you boys reunited.” I look at her and she smiles. “And maybe even settled with an omega.”
And, I may have a heart of solid darkness, but how the fuck can I say no to that?
