I peer up at the clock above the town hall. “He should be heading for work about now along with my mom.”
He leans in to nibble my neck and as he does a passing truck catches my eye. A familiar truck. One that used to park up every evening at the front of my house.
Karl stares back at me from the driver’s seat, his eyes wide with shock. I smile as wide as I can at him and then I grab the collar of the alpha’s shirt and drag him in for another kiss.
Thank you shower gods.

At nine am sharp,I stroll into the cafe at the bottom of our tower. I left instructions with Angel and my pack to be here too. Silver’s already half way through a cup of coffee which is no surprise. But the others are all late. Angel turns up with Hardy ten minutes after me, followed closely behind by Connor. He can be forgiven. He didn’t rock in from his little trip to Naw Creek until the early hours of this morning.
After we’d gotten to the bottom of why the omega had left the city, it was Silver who came up with the idea about the ecological foundation. She wants a job. In the city. And this one sounded like her dream vocation. Hopefully enough to tempt her back. Much to Nate’s annoyance, we voted for Connor to go and see her. He knows her hometown, plus out of all of us he won’t be too pushy. I’d have a hard time not dragging her back, and Nate? Well, he’s already shown his tendency for flinging the woman over her shoulder when she doesn’t cooperate.
No, that’s not the way we’re operating anymore. Her choice, her decision.
The way Connor’s bond was thrumming when he came in last night has me thinking he was successful. The way a contented smile hovers on his lip this morning confirms it.
“Things went well then,” I ask, when he carries his coffee over to the table where the rest of us are waiting.
“You could say that.”
Hardy glares at him. “That’s all you’re giving us?”
“What else do you want?” Connor asks, ripping the top off a packet of sugar and tipping the contents into his drink.
“Details, man, details.”
“We spent the morning and most of the afternoon making out in her bedroom.” He grins.
“I ate her pussy.” I look up and Nate pulls back a chair and falls into it. He smirks at Connor.
Connor shrugs. “I’m not complaining or competing. I don’t think I’ve spent a better five hours.”
I stare at him, then flip my attention back to Nate.
“What are you talking about?”
Nate reaches for my coffee and takes a long gulp, grimacing. “That is revolting.”
“Caramel shot,” I explain.
“Tastes nothing like the real thing, Ax.” He licks his lips.
I can’t decide if I hate him or love him.
“This has to be a good sign, right?” Angel says. “Maybe we should ask Molly. Get an opinion from an omega.”
“You’re not telling your little sister that I ate out the omega.”
“Yeah,” Angel says, nose wrinkling. “Maybe I’ll leave out the details.”
“So why are we here?” Hardy asks. “And what’s with the dress code?” We’re all dressed in combat gear and suitable footwear like I instructed. Except Nate. He’s in his usual ripped jeans and boots.
“Team bonding exercise.”
They stare at me.
