Ford’s jaws stiffen and this time I spy hurt in those light brown eyes.

“What’s going on?” I say stepping towards them both.

Molly ignores me, jabbing angrily at the elevator buttons.

“She wants to go to Colten’s house and confront him.”

“Confront him?”

“He won’t even be at his house right now, Molly,” Ford says. “It’s the middle of the day. He’ll be at the office.”

I hesitate, then I say, “He won’t be at the office.”

Molly slams her hand against the buttons in frustration, then spins around to face me.

“He’s obviously hiding something. And seeing as you won’t tell me and he won’t tell me, I’m going to find out for myself.”

“Molly–”

“He’s married, isn’t he?” She shakes her head in frustration. “I knew something wasn’t right. I knew it. Lying, cheating, scumbag.” She glares at Ford with wild eyes. “Do you have a gun, Ford? Stupid question, of course you do. Because I may need it!”

“We are not shooting anyone,” I say.

“You stay out of this,” she says, shaking her finger at me. “You’re complicit. You know and you’re not saying. Bros before hos, huh? Asshole!”

The elevator rumbles.

I stride over and hit my fist against the buttons stopping it dead.

“Get out of my way, River,” she says.

“You’re hungry. Exhausted. You’re not thinking straight, little one.”

“I am.” Tears bubble in her eyes again. Molly Stormgate may pretend she’s tough, but underneath it all, she’s like every other omega. Fragile. Vulnerable to heartbreak like the rest of us. She rests her hands on my arms. “I need to know. Tell me and I won’t have to go.”

I sigh. “He needs to tell you himself.” Her face cracks. She had her suspicions, but to have them confirmed … “It’s not what you think it is,” I add quickly.

“Then what is it?”

I stare into her tear-stained face. I’m used to telling women what they need to hear, good at spinning yarns and weaving lies. I can’t do it to Molly. “I’ll take you there. I’ll take you to see him.”

“She needs to go home and–”

“She needs to see Colt,” I tell him.

Molly

It takes longerthan I want to track down my clothes and set off for Mr. Red Flag’s house. Mostly because we can’t find my panties. No matter how hard we look. But when I catch River looking under the same cushion for the fifth time, I realize he’s probably stolen them and admit defeat. Commando it is.

Well, pantie-less or not, I’m going to confront Colten Turner. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know why River is so reluctant to tell me, yet in the next breath reassures me it isn’t anything bad.

Right, like dudes don’t cover for each other all the time. Especially dudes who have known each other as long as Colt and River have.

I need the truth, even though discovering it may make me physically sick. May even leave me heartbroken.

I take a deep breath and peer out of the window. Was I falling for him? Silly, silly girl. That isn’t meant to happen. Falling for an alpha you spent your heat with is such a cliché. Falling for a lone wolf is dangerous. Falling for a lone wolf who saw you through your heat when he already has a partner, disastrous.
