“He’s my best friend. I enjoy spending time with him.”

“He’s your best friend?” I say, taken aback. The men seem like polar opposites. Colten’s all ruthless businessman. River a laid-back sporting superstar. Except now I come to think about it. He’s not so laid back when he’s out there racing.

“Yeah, we grew up in a pack together. He’s my oldest friend.”

“You’re brothers?” I say, even more shocked. They look nothing alike.

“No, not by blood anyway – although he’s the closest thing I have to a brother.” My confusion must be obvious on my face because he adds, “It was a big pack. There was more than one omega.”

I frown. “More than one omega …” I can’t imagine that. Alphas may be capable of sharing, but omegas? Especially in the throes of a heat. We’re possessive as hell.

“You don’t like the idea of sharing, little one?”

“No,” I say truthfully.

“You’re one of those spoiled omegas?”

“No, not really, but when it comes to my pack, I would like to be,” I confess.

He leans in and whispers in my ear, his warm breath bristling against the shell. “I’d be happy to spoil you anyway you wanted me to. Do you have any particular demands, little one?”

My eyes start to drift shut. The man’s voice is more of a growl than anything else. I bet he could make me come simply by whispering naughty things in my ear.

I whimper but then I catch sight of Ford scowling at me from the edge of the dance floor. Colten stands a foot away from him, looking just as disgruntled.

Something low tugs in my belly. I am really, really dreadful. A very bad omega indeed.

River follows my gaze, and seeing the two other alphas staring, he moves us deeper into the throng of dancers and a realization hits me.

To be honest, it should have hit me sooner.

Like I said, River can have any woman he wants. There is no reason for him to choose me.

“Are you trying to wind your best friend up, River Caspian?”

“Excuse me, Molly Stormgate,” he responds.

“Colten wants me to date him–”

“He doesn’t want to date you, little one. He wants you to be his.”

I roll my eyes. “He doesn’t know me.”

“I’ve known him a very long time. I know what I see.”

“And,” I continue, trying to ignore the way he squeezes my waist, “is that why you’re doing this?”

“What am I doing?” he says, looking genuinely confused.

“Dancing with me. Paying for that date with Colten.”

One corner of his mouth curls up in a crooked smile I’ve seen a thousand times in memes across the internet. It’s so darn filthy.

“You got me there.” My stomach sinks. “I didn’t like the idea of him grabbing a date with you, little one, so I may have outbid you intentionally as a way to fuck things up for him.”

“So it’s about fucking things up for him?” I frown. He cocks his head to one side.

“Why that look, Omega?” He tilts his head to the other side when I don’t answer. “Ahhh,” he says. “You think I’m here to mess with him. That I’m not interested in you.”
