“It looks like you have a meeting at nine with …” He huffs and passes me the mouse, allowing me to click on the appointment and enlarge the words. “With Brian, Carly and Hans.”

“Senior Management meeting. I’ll need you to be there to take notes.” I nod. “What else?”

“HR meeting with Sally at 11am.”

“Shift it to later in the week.” I scribble a note. “What’s next?”

“Lunch at the …” I press on the appointment but there are no details. “It doesn’t say.”

“I know what it is,” he mutters, making me glance at him. “What else?”

I run through the rest of his day, then move on to Wednesday and Thursday.

“Looks like your Thursday afternoon is blocked out to run through some proposal and then in the evening it says you have a charity event.”

He groans. “Right, tell them I can’t make it.”

“It’s for the children’s home.”

“I know.”

“So you can’tnotgo.”

“I have no one to go with and I’ve done back-to-back events like this for the last six months. I need a break.”

“Well, if you had apack, you wouldn’t have to go alone,” I point out.

“If I had anomega, I wouldn’t have to go alone. But oh wait, let me think, someone sabotaged my chances of finding one at that speed-dating event.”

“Me?” I say pointing to my chest. “How did I sabotage you?”

“Wasted my time. Time I could have been spending with an omega actually looking for a date.”

“We talked for like ten minutes.”

“Twenty,” he says.

I look up at him. His eyes are a swirling mess and I can’t tell if he’s seriously annoyed or something else.

“The event was two hours long.”

“And you captured my attention for most of those two hours.”

Me?

I uncross and recross my legs, not knowing what to make of that confession. “Because?”

He changes the subject. “Of course, if you came with me on Thursday, I’d have company.”

I stare at him. “Did your last assistant quit because you hit on her?”

“No,” he mumbles, “it was more like the other way round.”

“Hmmm.”

“He let himself into my house and I found him in my bed. Naked.”

“Are you sure you didn’t invite him there? Encouraged him to take the initiative?”
