“Even more of a red flag than I first predicted.”

Ava’s posture stiffens. “Why? What happened?”

“He basically propositioned me in the office today,” I say, eyes fixed to the notes.

Ava gasps and I sneak a look at her. She looks positively shocked. “He can’t do that!”

“Well he did.”

“What did you do? What are you going to do?”

“I told him, no thank you, and I’m going to do nothing. I want the job.” I lower the paper. “It’s a shame though.”

“I know, men are such assholes. Especially when they’re your boss.”

“No, not that. It’s a shame about Mr. Red Flag.”

“In what way?” Ava asks, examining my wistful look.

“He’s very hot. If he had a pack, then–”

“You can’t sleep with your boss!”

“I’m not going to sleep with my boss. I told you. He has no pack. And I am not going anywhere near a lone-wolf type, not even with a full-length broom.”

Ava nods, relief flooding her face.

“What is it with lone wolves though,” I continue. “You know I’ve met two more in the last few days.”

“You have?”

“Yes, my new bodyguard, Ford.”

Ava motions her head towards the closed bedroom door and mouths, “Him?”

“Yes,” I mouth back.

“He’s hot,” she whispers.

“And also packless.”

“Such a shame,” she muses.

“Exactly.”

“Who was the other?”

“Other?”

“The third lone wolf.”

“Oh,” I say, my eyes doing that wistful thing and my cheeks warming at the memory.

“Moll!” Ava grabs my arm and shakes me. “Who?”

“River Caspian.”

Ava screams, half full of excitement, half of terror.
